Phillies Stuph

*According to Todd Zolecki of MLB.com (strange not to type Philadelphia Inquirer there), the Phillies 2009 payroll with be a club record $131.5M. The article goes into an easy to read breakdown position by position of salaries. It's kind of sickening to see we're still paying millions to Jim Thome to pop homeruns for another team, Adam Eaton to hide throughout the concourse of Citizens Bank Park, and Geoff Jenkins to get splinters in his ass on the bench...but you win some, you lose some I suppose.

*Owner of a greatly groomed Fu-Manchu, Sal Fasano, signed a minor league contract with the Colorado Rockies. He wasn't a great player, a good player, or even a mediocre player, but he was a good man and won the adoration of fans with his facial hair to a point where he gained cult status...good luck with the Rox.

*Bobby Abreu remains unsigned, and now may be forced to sign a 1 year deal in the $3M range...oh how the mighty have fallen.

*Thanks to some suggestions by commenters on BeerLeaguer yesterday, I've decided to attempt to create a database of celebs that are Phils fans, obnoxiously named Phamous Phillies Phans Database. I will take submissions in the comment section and via email, and do posts periodically on these stars that love our Phightins. Will Smith, Art Garfunkle, Kevin Eubanks of Jay Leno's band, and Chris Matthews from MSNBC's Hardball are the start of my list.

*I apologize for the title of this post as the spelling of "stuff" with a "ph" was clearly unnecessary, but I was bored and felt like sprucing it up a bit.

Boyz II Men. Tim McGraw. Kevin Bacon. isn't Joe Biden a phils phan? might think Bill Cosby, Bon Jovi, Tina Fey, John Oates (of Hall and Oates, went to my high school!), etc...

Andrew, thanks for those. I'll be taking all these names and compiling them into a post sometime soon, and then make it an ongoing database on one of our sidebars.

don't forget Jayson Stark... oh, and Jon from Jon and Kate plus 8! (I'm quite embarrassed to know that... damn wife!!!)

Stark is my homeboy...he just doesn't know it. Rumor has it WSBGM's might have scored an interview with Mr. Stark sometime during the '09 season.

I look forward to that one! I always enjoy his articles. Especially the ones with tons of useless information at the end of the season.

Jack from 'Lost' is a huge Eagles fan. Don't know about Phillies.

His Useless Information articles are my favorite too, as that's the type of stuff I LOVE about baseball.

Holy Hannah, we've just been graced by Mr. Weitzel of BeerLeaguer fame. Thanks.

A few confirmed political ones: Samuel Alito is avowed, David Plouffe (Obama's campaign manager), Senator Jim Bunning (duh), Arlen Specter, and yes to Biden although his wife Jill is more of a fan.

The guy from Wedding Crashers who hosted SNL this week was wearing a Phillies hat...Bradley something?

Bobby Abreu signed with the Angels for 1 year $5M, yet we gave Rual Ibanez 3 years $31.5M...wow!

I don't trust Will Smith's Philly phandom. He's flip-floppy. I've seen him rocking Miami stuff, and lots of LA stuff. Not cool.
