If you were alive in the 80's you remember the Cabbage Patch Kids craze (I had one wearing maroon Phillies pinstripes, and yes I know it was a doll). Topps trading cards attempted to capitalize off of CPK's money making by releasing a parody set of grotesque cards called Garbage Pail Kids (I had a huge collection that I later traded for Micro Machines). Today I bring to you WSBGM's first installment of Garbage Pail Phillies, the pitching edition, where I match a pitcher up with their namesake of Garbage Pail Kid. Future editions include offense, coaches, radio personalities, and your two favorite bloggers (Carson & Corey).

was watching MASN classics again last night. this time they were replaying Game 5 (the final game) in the '83 World Series. Obviously, it was a tragic evening at the old Vet, but it was fun watching the likes of Schmidt, Rose, Matthews, Maddox, Morgan, Perez and DeJesus fighting Ripken Jr, Murray, Dempsey and McGregor. I like how it was Ripken's rookie season and the announcers were saying they were hoping for big things from this 23 year old kid... if only they knew...
Too bad the Phils batted only .195 in the entire series and Schmidt was .050.

Two points today about Ryan Howard.
The first one is actually more a point about batting average. In 2008, Ryan Howard hit .251. A year earlier he had hit .268. In the two years, though, he got a hit when he came to the plate at almost exactly the same rate.http://fanzak.com/fzrants/The_40_340_club
