Christ Coste is a standup guy. Here's his reaction to the Paulino trade- “Let me just say this – if I was GM of the Phillies I would have made the move in a heartbeat. In fact, even if Ruiz was an All-Star and I had hit .350 in 2008, I still would have made the move. You can never have too much catching, especially when it is such a volatile and injury-prone position. And they got Ronny Paulino, a former major league starting catcher for Jason Jaramillo, a guy they had apparently given up on. This trade was a no-brainer.
“If there is a competition then so be it. If someone gets traded then so be it. I have never expected to be handed anything in the world of baseball, and I expect 2009 to be no different.”
"MONDAY: David Murphy of the Philadelphia Daily News says Park held a press conference in Korea today to announce his signing with the Phillies. It's a one-year, $2.5MM deal with up to $5MM in incentives, according to the Korea Times. Park relishes the chance to start for the Phils. He said the Giants, Diamondbacks, Royals, and Blue Jays also expressed interest."
Does he really think he's going to start?
$2.5 Mill for Chan Ho? Are you f'ing kidding me?
Oh and by f'ing, I meant fucking.
Wow, $2.5MM for Ho Park...way to go Rube. By "way to go" I mean- total douche!
Chan Ho reeks of Jose Mesa
"When asked on how close the Phillies were to re-signing Moyer, Amaro Jr. said the club will "have an announcement later today.""
Lets hope they didn't just blown 2.5 million on Park and now won't be able to sign Moyer. I know a few of Gillick's moves seemed odd at the time (Eaton, Barajas, Dobbs, Werth, Blanton, Taguchi) but about half of them worked out and we became WFC. At this point we can only cross our fingers and pray there is something in the larger picture that we're missing to repeat as WFC.
Chase Utley is having a press conference later today to discuss how his rehab is going. Maybe Amaro will announce a Moyer signing then too. If Moyer is added, that really leaves no more room on the roster. Might be a very boring next couple of months until spring training starts.
You can also link funny Phillies images in the comments section in this post for the contest.
The Park signing likely signals that Condrey's spot may be taken. Park may vie with Kendrick, Eaton (Uhg), and Happ for the 5th spot, that is taking for granted a Moyer signing. Now if Moyer signs are they still interested in Lowe?
haha this isn't for the competition, but...

look at mo vaughn's face!
That's a fine example of Korean martial arts there.
Rumor has it that Jamie Moyer will be back on a 2 year $15MM deal, with a press conference coming later this afternoon.
confirmed - sweet, welcome back Jamie
We're getting some good pictures in the hotmail inbox...keep 'em coming.
Now Utley believes he could be back by April. However he will likely miss about 1 of the 7 months of the Phils season, and I say 7 months because I am counting on them playing in October again.
Donald and Bruntlett will be fine for a month. Ibanez is going to go Yahtzee all over the NL. You heard it here first...Raul Ibanez April 2009 NL Player of the Month.
Followed by Werth player of the month of May, and Utley player of the month of June.
Other than bringing in another infeilder (most likely a No-Hit-Nunez type - unfortunately) are there any other moves we see Amaro doing? Are they still interested in Lowe now with Moyer and Park signing? I do not see that unless a trade happens and that would likely be Myers.
Roster:
Rotation- 1. Hamels, 2. Myers, 3. Blanton, 4. Moyer, 5. Happ/Carrasco
Bullpen- 6. Park, 7. Durbin, 8. Condrey, 9. Madson, 10. Romero, 11. Eyre, 12. Lidge
Lineup- 13. Rollins, 14. Victorino, 15. Utley, 16. Howard, 17. Werth, 18. Ibanez, 19. Feliz, 20. Ruiz
Bench- 21. Dobbs, 22. Bruntlett, 23. Jenkins, 24. Paulino/Coste, 25. Stairs.
That's a crowded roster already. Donald will likely take Utley spot on the roster until Chase's return.
don't forget that Mayberry guy
Mayberry will be in Triple A.
Braves just got better with the addition of Rafael Furcal. Now they can try to trade for Peavy, with a packaged headed by Yunel Escobar.
