World Series Game 5.5, Vol. 2

We probably won't get any info from the managers on who will be in the game when the World Series resumes tonight. So in the name of wild speculation, here are my best guesses.

Pitching for TB - Grant Balfour is currently pitching for the Rays and I see him as the odds-on favorite to start the bottom of the sixth. There has been a lot of talk about David "The Messiah" Price pitching for Tampa, but I don't see him starting the 6th. If he would, he would face three right handed batters in a row (one of whom led the majors in homers against lefthanded pitching) before the big-bopping lefties come to the plate. Also, the pitchers spot comes up fourth the following inning, making it likely Price would only go one inning, letting the 7th for Ryan Howard's latest HR victim JP Howell. Instead, I think Joe Maddon will stick with Balfour in the beginning.

Batting for Philly - If the Rays have a lefty warming in the pen (Price, Howell) then Charlie sends Jenkins up to the plate, figuring Maddon will make the change. Once the lefty enters the game, either Bruntlett or Taguchi comes in for Jenkins. If the Rays don't have anyone warming in the pen besides Balfour, I see Dobbs walking to home plate, taking the risk that the Rays don't have a lefty warming up in some top-secret location.

Pitching for Philly - Charlie Manuel has already said that Ryan Madson will start the top of the 7th.

Just as a reminder, here are how the lineups will look this evening:

Phillies
1. [Pinch hitter]
2. Rollins
3. Werth
4. Utley
5. Howard
6. Burrell
7. Victorino
8. Feliz
9. Ruiz

Rays
1. Navarro
2. Baldelli
3. Bartlett
4. [Pinch hitter]
5. Iwamura
6. Crawford
7. Upton
8. Pena
9. Longoria

Bud Selig can only delay the inevitable for so long. Tonight is the night. Go Phils!

more stuff to make you vomit...jim caple thinks david price could be the key player tonight because "the southpaw would get to face Philly's lefties...with his overpowering fastballs and nasty sliders on what is predicted to be a cold night that will leave batters' hands stinging in pain."

is there anybody better at over-hyping something than espn? [my favorite is when they determined through a month's worth of sportscenter segments that no one in the history of college football could beat the '05 usc trojan, then they didn't even win the rose bowl.]

Not One ESPN pundit of 24 pundits even predicted that the Phillies would make it into the World Series.

This has been a good break, and Philadelphia will be able to celebrate at an earlier hour.

Go Phils!

i'm wondering if Charlie puts Stairs, Dobbs, or Jenkins in to face the righty, Maddon will go to the bullpen right away

Maddon will over-manage. He's had too much time to think.

These two hours will be tough to sit through.

Do you think they stop beer sales at the 7th tonight? Not that I'm thinking beer when it's so cold.

Beer stops at the top of the 9th.

Anybody worrying, crying or otherwise, stop it!

Better pen. 3 more outs. Top of the lineup after probably Dobbs leading off. Players, manager, fans pissed off and ready to take it out on the Rays, Selig and Fox tonight.

There is no jinx, curse, other. I know I sound like a blind optimist but I am almost 50 and have seen everything bad happen except the
'64 Phillies collapse. I have also seen the good 25+ years ago. It's time to end the drought and it's going down tonight. This is coming from a Philly fatalist attitude after seeing all this bullshit for 25 years. No more.

Keep the faith. I'll leave you with a Fred Shero quote before the Flyers clinched the Cup in '74...

'We win tonight, we walk together forever'.

As we do tonight.

The Phils have a chance to make history in more ways than one tonight. Of course if they win the obvious is that they're World Series champs, but think about the conditions under which they would have won...no team has ever done anything like this before. Win it tonight!!!

Madson wasn't great, but JC was. 3 more outs from Mr. 100%, it's almost time to celebrate.
