Phillies Career Stats Against Dodgers

The following roster is what is believed to be the 25 players representing the Phillies versus the Dodgers in the second round of the National League playoffs. Listed with each player are their career stats against Los Angeles.

1. Jimmy Rollins- .239 average, .636 OPS.
2. Shane Victorino- .246, .679.
3. Chase Utley- .339, 1.028.
4. Ryan Howard- .214, .824.
5. Pat Burrell- .250, .848.
6. Jayson Werth- .323, .947.
7. Pedro Feliz- .218, .626.
8. Carlos Ruiz- .261, .737.

1. Greg Dobbs- .200 average, .500 OPS.
2. Chris Coste- .179, .651.
3. Matt Stairs- .226, .759.
4. Geoff Jenkins- .270, .864.
5. Eric Bruntlett- .160, .476.
6. So Taguchi- .163, .427.

Wow, that's a lot of low batting averages with little to no power and on base threat. Dodgers have a very good pitching staff, both starting and relief, so scrapping out runs is going to be necessary to win the series.

Starting Pitchers:
1. Cole Hamels- 1-0 record, 2.57 era, 0.86 whip.
2. Brett Myers- 4-2, 2.61, 1.15.
3. Jamie Moyer- 3-4, 4.80, 1.42.
4. Joe Blanton- 1-0, 3.32, 1.63.

1. Brad Lidge- 1-1 record, 7 saves, 3.45 era, 1.47 whip.
2. Ryan Madson- 1-0, 2.66, 1.23.
3. JC Romero- 0-2, 8.64, 2.04.
4. Chad Durbin- 1-0, 9.00, 2.50.
5. Scott Eyre- 3-0, 1.11, 0.90.
6. Clay Condrey- 1-1, 6.23, 2.31.
7. JA Happ- never faced.

Our starting staff has done well against Los Angeles, but some of the relief group has been atrocious. Just like the Milwaukee series, this one will be won by our starters taking the team deep into the game (6th inning and beyond) so that we do not have to rely too much on some shaky relievers.

I did a quick look of Phillies hitters vs. the current Dodgers staff and the numbers improve. The sample size shrinks, but what you lose in statistical validity you make up in a more accurate comparison of rosters.

This is a great match up. Balanced. Great for a series, hard for Phillies fans and handicappers.

LA pitching has been better, but if you look at the guys likely to pitch the numbers get closer.

Phils and LA have identical home records. Phils better on the road. Phils played in a tougher division.

Like the Brewers series: Don't pitch to the big bat (now it's Manny not Prince) . The Dodgers line-up is better than the Brewers.

Bring it on. It will be exciting.

Good, no TBS.

Did they announce an MVP for the NLDS? Some players did good: Victorino, Burrell, Werth, JRoll. They seemed to take turns on having big games. That would be OK as long as someone has a big game each day and there is enough support around him.

Magic number down to 8.

I'm not sure if the NLDS has an MVP. I think that's only for the NLCS and World Series. My vote would have been Rollins or Victorino though.

My gut tells me Phils in 6, but my heart says Phils in 5. I wonder what my butt thinks?

Let's just hope that Utley can figure out what the hell is wrong with his swing by game 1! We need him.

GM-Carson said...

Utley is going deep twice in this series, and quite possible wins NLCS MVP.

Stop listening to the Media. The Phils are better than the Dodgers.

8 wins to go.

Manny turned into the girlish figure you see in the bottom picture from having way too much money to spend on things like hairdo's !!!

Making 20+ million a year in Boston for 6 years is enough to make you start wanting to spruce up your appearance!
