Party Like It's 1993 (Sort Of)

With the Philadelphia Phillies set to take on the Tampa Bay Rays in the World Series it's time to party like it's 1993...sort of. The '93 Phillies were a bunch of fun loving, curse like a sailor, drink like a fish, and play with your hair on fire guys. Not only did the city of Philly fall in love with them, they managed to capture the adoration of the nation. Well, the city of Philly has once again become enamored with the Phils, but the rest of this great nation is lacking it that sentiment (As I type this post, 50+k have voted on and 65% think the Rays will win the World Series, and only 3 states have picked the Phils- Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Delaware...notice the proximity?). As the present-day squad has already proven, screw the media and the know-it-alls, because this team is destined for greatness. But like I said above, it's time to party like it's 1993, but not quite, because this time the Phils are winning it all.

1993 Milestones:

*If you look really close at the above image of Corey and I wearing our rally towels from the 2007 NLDS over our crotches, you will notice I'm rocking a 1993 National League Champions Phillies t-shirt.
*Film- Jurassic Park, Philadelphia, Schindler's List, The Fugitive, and Mrs. Doubtfire.
*Music- Backstreet Boys form, Cypress Hills drops Black Sunday, Nirvana kicks back with In Utero, and Snoop Doggy Dogg gives us Doggystyle.
*Births- nobody worth mentioning.
*Deaths- 1st African American appointed to the Supreme Court Thurgood Marshall, Trumpet Player Dizzy Gillespie, tennis player Arthur Ashe, actor River Phoenix, and guitar hero Frank Zappa.
*Events- Bill Clinton takes over for the Old George Bush, David Koresh has a cult going in Waco, Texas, a huge friggin' blizzard hits the USA, and the World Wide Web (www) is created.
*Sports- the Colorado Rockies and Florida Marlins are introduced to MLB while the Toronto Blue Jays go on to win the World Series, the North Carolina Tar Heels are the NCAA basketball champions, the Chicago Bulls are champs in the NBA, the Dallas Cowboys are victors in the Super Bowl, and the Montreal Canadiens win the Stanley Cup.
*Tag Team Tuesdays: 1993 Tribute.

Hope you had fun reminiscing about the good ol' days, but like I said above, this year will leave even better memories.

Happy bday Rudy Seanez.

On this date in Phillies history- In the longest (4 hours, 14 minutes) and highest-scoring game in post-season history, the Phils blow leads of 6-3, 12-7 and 14-9. The Blue Jays pull out a 15-14 victory in Game 4 of the World Series.

I am down here in Tampa right now, I think I'll test the waters today with my Phillies "Utley" t-shirt!

Just got a bad sunburn yesterday so the red jersey should match the rest of me quite well! :(

I really don't understand all the disdain for the Phils. They've earned their way to the World Series, how about showing them some love. I know everyone seems to be infatuated with the American League, but the NL is good too, we just can't win bullshit All Star games.

Phils in 6

Phils in 5. I say they split the first 2 games in TB, then head home and win out.

I say the Phils will win 4 of the next 7 or fewer games.

Carson, you gonna do a preview the next few days?

I believe Corey is lining up a Know Your Enemy and Tale of the Tape for the World Series to be debuted Tuesday and Wednesday.

About DH- Dobbs or Stairs are easy picks against a right, even Jenkins could be considered, but against a lefty like Game 1's starter Kazmir I'd go with Coste against, and if Ruiz happened to get hurt (God forbid) Coste could move from DH to catcher and then we'd just have to let the pitcher bat.

Of course, Manuel could easily choose Taguchi or Bruntlett (both unfortunate choices), and plug them into leftfield while Burrell DH's.

I think Burrell will probably DH. He's always being pulled for defense, so why not start with him pulled for defense but leave him in all game?

I also think the Phillies win in 5, mainly because they HAVE to. The Phillies are winning the World Series. but if they win on the road the memories won't be as great. They also have to win on a swinging strikeout. None of this pop up, ground outs, or swinging bunts + tags. Win it the way you're supposed to.

Happy bday to Rudy Seanez. "Hopefully you're not used in the World Series unless it's because the Phils are blowing out the opponent."
