The Phillies have stretched this out long enough. I feel like it's been five or six years in a row that it's come down to the last weekend. And now rain is going to go and screw up the entire weekend. I think that there is a 40% chance of rain for tonight's game, 60% tomorrow, and 50% for Sunday. Let's hope the baseball gods smile on Philadelphia and allow the Fightins a chance to open up a lead with the Mets almost assuredly being idle for the next couple days. If the Mets have to rely on a doubleheader Sunday and a make up game on Monday, things have to be in the Phillies' favor. The Phils have to do their part and pick up the wins (preferably a sweep) against the Gnats.

The Phillies are the better team and are going to win the division. Clinch with Moyer on saturday.

Mets suck. They just aren't good enough. They were lucky to beat the Cubs triple AAA boys and the night before were woeful in the loss. The Fish will blow 'em.

We have the cattle to do it. If Blanton and Moyer pitch a couple of quality starts the Phils could wrap it up by saturday.

I'd love for the Phils to clinch before Sunday so Hamels can be rested and Happ can pitch instead, but that's highly doubtful. They really wasted that Braves series.

At least Ryan Howard is no longer the NL leader in K's. That guy who plays for the D-Backs is already over 200, and the way Ryno is hitting I doubt he'll catch up and pass that guy.

i am still supporting the notion that the mets lose 3 instead of us winning any games, i want them 100% demoralized

I'm entirely cool with the Mets getting swept this weekend. I take pleasure in their pain.

From Zolecki-
Here are some postseason scenarios involving the Phillies:

If the Phillies win the NL East and the Mets win the wild card, the Phillies will play the Dodgers in the NL division series.
If the Phillies win the NL East and the Brewers win the wild card, the Phillies will play the Brewers in the NLDS.
If the Mets win the NL East and the Phillies win the wild card, the Phillies will play the Cubs in the NLDS.
If the Phillies and Mets finish the season tied in the NL East and with a better record than the Brewers, the Mets win the division because of their 11-7 record against the Phillies. The Phillies win the wild card.
If the Phillies and Mets finish the season tied in the NL East, but have a worse record than the Brewers, the Phillies would play the Mets in a one-game playoff Monday at Citizens Bank Park.
If the Phillies, Mets and Brewers finish the season tied, the Phillies would host the Mets in a one-game playoff to decide the NL East title Monday at Citizens Bank Park. If the Phillies lose, they would host the Brewers in a one-game playoff for the wild card Tuesday at Citizens Bank Park. If the Mets lose to the Phillies on Monday, they would host the Brewers in a one-game playoff Tuesday at Shea Stadium.

Whats the Pirates playoff senario?

GM-Carson said...

Bob D- "Effed in the A" is the playoff scenario for the Buccos.

Wait until next year! (for the Pirates)

I agree with Carson's previous post that the Phils control their own destiny and if they don't make it, it will be their own fault...

...but still, I think Lou Piniella is an absolute jackass for essentially forfeiting last night's game. Resting Soto - I definitely get that. And maybe even Soriano, since he's somewhat injury-prone. but D-Lee? Mark DeRosa? That's ridiculous. The Cubs bench last night looked suspiciously like this year's All-Star game starters...which is sickening on a number of levels.

The real offensive part of it is that Sweet Lou didnt even have the decency to pinch hit with any of his good players....what a clown.

For last night's game alone, I have decided to put a hex on the cubs to keep them away from the World Series for another hundred years. So has it been written, so shall it be done.

...not come off as too negative in the last post: I still think the Phils are gonna make the playoffs, and hopefully as the NL East Champs.

Go phils, and muck the fets!

Fuck yeah!!!!!

Clinch tomorrow Phils!

BIG WIN TONIGHT! The offense was stagnant after 2 innings, but all that matters is that we got the W and the Mutts are on their way to a loss. A magic number of 1 with 2 games left makes me feel pretty ok, but I'd rather just pick up the win tomorrow (or whenever they play) and be able to sit back and relax for game 162.

Bob D said...

It would be great to skip over Hamels on Sunday if the team will clinch tommorow.

Bob D said...

Better yet, the Brew Crew just scored some and they may put the Mutts down by 1 in the wildcard with 2 to play.

GreggyD said...

I know we just swept the Brewers recently, but who would you rather play in the playoffs? The Mets or Milwaukee? Of course every part of me doesn't want to see New York make it in, but I'd love to face their bullpen if the Phillies got the opportunity.

1 MORE PHILS!
ONE MOTHA F'in MORE!!!!

Fact of the matter is assumed that the Mets would likely have no chance against the Cubs.

With a division win, the Phillies play the Dodgers, right?

Green jacket, gold jacket, who gives a shit? As long as they make it into the postseason.
