The Mets are in Milwaukee and the Phillies are in Washington, each for a 3 game series. The Brewers are fighting for the NL Central and the NL Wild Card, while the Nationals are fighting not to be the worst team in the NL. Yesterday the Mets won and the Phils lost; now 2 games back. Hoping that the Mets lose is no way to go through September, rather the Phils should make life a lot easier by simply taking care of business themselves and winning and forcing the pressure upon New York instead. Winning the next 2 games against the Nats is imperative, and it starts tonight with ace Cole Hamels versus John Lannan.
*Ryan Howard struck out twice yesterday to up his season total to an astronomical 180.
*Infielders Andy Tracy and Mike Cervenak, along with left-handed reliever Les Walrond have also be called up with the expanded September rosters.
*Matt Stairs was 0-2 in his Phillie debut.
*Jimmy Rollins hit his 10th homerun of the season after blasting 30 in his MVP campaign last year.
*Kyle Kendrick continued his post-All Star plummet yesterday by getting battered around for 6 runs in 4 innings. He's now 3-5 with a 6.45 era in the 2nd half.
