The Braves Surrender

Just when you think you've had enough of Pat Burrell and his slump...WHAM!...he shows you why you should never give up on Pat Burrell.

Forget Turner Field. After the Phils took all nine games played in Atlanta this year, that place is now called Citizen's Bank Park South, or Cit South for short.

Hamels was solid but particularly unspectacular last night. To avoid spontaneous elbow combustion, Hamels threw 103 pitches and was out of the game. I have to think that if the bullpen would have blown this lead, I would blow a gasket complaining about Hamels only pitching six innings. As it was, Madson survived his own team's defense, Romero and Lidge were solid, and the Phils left town with the ATL sweep.
Where's The K?
Another game, another strikeout. Right? Not lately. Howard has slowed his K progression so much that, as The Fightins pointed out yesterday, Diamondback infielder Mark Reynolds has passed him for the lead. [Reynolds had 192 entering last nights game.]

I'm not happy about this. I want the Phils to win. It would be cool if Ryan Howard pulls out an improbable MVP award, too. But I also want that strikeout record and I want it over 200.
NY - Was there any doubt that Johan was going to beat the Gnats last night? The Mets are still 1/2 game behind the Phils, but since the Mets have an extra game to play, you almost have to look at this as a tie for the lead in the NL East.

The Mets now head down to Cit South to take on the Braves for three. Hopefully they won't lay down like they did against the Phils.

Oh, and there are people out there trying to say the Jose Reyes isn't gay. I'm not buying it...

Milwaukee - What the hell is wrong with team? Whatever it is, I hope no one figures it out until December or so. After their bullpen implosion in Chicago yesterday, the Phils have a 2 game lead on the Brewers for the Wild Card.

The Brewers go to Cincinnati to play a Reds team that, despite being 12 games under .500, has won four consecutive series. Ben Sheets isn't scheduled to pitch in the series, but the question is will he pitch the rest of the year? This could be a big blow for the Brewers...
If the season ended...
If the season ended today, a lot of people who have tickets for the final homestand would be pissed, but these would be the playoff matchups in the NL.

Fish Fry
The Phils are hot, but the Fish may be hotter. Florida has rolled off eight straight wins. They are getting solid pitching and are just killing the ball. This is the Phils hardest series remaining (ATL & WAS at home), so 2 of 3 would be great.

Myers, Blanton and Moyer will go for the Phils, against Johnson, Sanchez and Volstad. No Ricky Nolasco is a good thing...

Let's put another one in the Win Column for the Phightin' Phils!!!

The Phillies sweep the Braves 9-0 at home the longest home sweep of the Braves since 1908!

86-67 The Phillies are in First Place atop the NL East. 1/2 Game Lead with 9 to play.

85-67 Mutts beat the Nationals.
1/2 game back with 10 to play.

84-69 the Brewers are crushed by 4 runs in the bottom of the 9th then lose it in extra innings to the Cubs. Ouch. 2 gamesbacks of the Phillies if the Phils need the Wild Card.

80-72 Astro lose to the Marlins.
They are tied 5 1/2 games back of the Phillies with 10 to play. The Fork is Out. Tiny Wild Card Chance.

So i've been reading this blog since the beginning of the season and i have yet to comment...

Anyway, I'm a die hard phillies fan from jersey but i've been stuck at the University of Kentucky for the last 4 years(yes Joe Blanton's alma mater haha)

All I have to say is I absolutely love the blog and the recent phils hot streak!

Also loved the brewers choking their hearts out to the cubs today. Absolutely Unfathomable.

We can't give up on pat the bat (despite his recent slumping). I have a funny feeling he'll come up huge in the playoffs.

And I knew Mark Reynolds struck out a whole bunch.. but i had NOOOO idea he passed Howard. Excellent!

Keep up the good work guys!!!!

WSBGM's will never give up on The Bat again after what he did last season. He's our boy.

I still can't believe the Brewers blew that game in the!

The Marlins scare me right now, they're still technically "alive" in the playoff hunt and they're certainly playing like it.

Oh, Jose Reyes is sooooo gay.

Right fielder Jayson Werth doubled in a first-inning run, extending his career-high hitting streak to 12. ... According to Baseball Prospectus, the Phillies have an 82 percent chance of making the playoffs, up from 12 percent before they swept the Braves. ... The Phillies left Atlanta having won 13 of the first 15 meetings, setting a franchise single-season record against the Braves.

With 9 to play, 7 wins gaurantees atleast a tie for wildcard and most likely would be enough to win the division. I believe the Mutts have the Cubs to face yet. And I would rather see the Brewers the wild card and the Mutts out of the playoffs all together.

GM-Carson said...

All I care about is the Phils making the playoffs via the NL East title or Wild Card. However, if I had my choice, I'd love for the Mets not to make it altogether so I can laugh my ass off at them yet again.

I don't know about you people but I'm one of those guys who'd rather, even if the Mets make it in the playoffs, that the Phillies don't face them. Unless it's, you know, unavoidable (pennant.)

But I suppose I should settle for the easiest team to beat.

GM-Carson said...

I hate the Mets!!!

Will Howard actually break the 199 SO mark from last year? He really has slowed his K rate alot over the last 2 months.

Looks as if Burrell maybe coming out of this slump at the right time. Hopefully he will have a high batting average right on thru the World Series.

GM-Carson said...

Howard would have to strikeout 10 times in the next 9 games (entirely possible) for him to reach 200. Corey may want that, but I do not.

The Marlins are killing the ball right now. Really need Myers to quite them like he's been doing since his return from exile.

Phils are now 20-9 under Campaign Cheer...just saying.

2. Ryan Madson

i think the Braves should be forced to wear Phillies ballgirl outfits for the rest of the year

GM-Carson said...

Chipper Jones might have a fine lookin' ass in a Phils ballgirl uni.

Bob D said...

Uh, No! They still have to come to Philly next week.

Maybe the rookie hazing outfits worn by the Philly Rookies the other day, but nothing to ruin the image of the Philly ballgirls.

So I'm putting this out there now in case anything weird happens. And if it doesn't, it's a funny story.

I had a dream last night that I was ballroom dancing with Brett Myers, and he broke my telescope (I fell asleep to the Science Channel, don't ask). Well I work at the UPS Store, and around 11:00 this morning someone comes in to ship a telescope. To Florida.

I'm predicting Brett hits a HR tonight. Or beans someone named, "Telescope."

ripjgarcia said...

Oh Crap.. Does not look like SuperBret tonight.

Aaron said...

Charlie Manual is a fucking idiot!!!
He stayed with Myers WAY WAY TOO LONG!! He obviously did not have it.

and then intentially walking jacobs in the 5th freakin inning to load the bases???????...with no one out???
Well guess who is now standing on 3rd base with only 1 out now.
Your an idiot Charlie!!!!!!!!!

Aaron said...

And now guess who just scored...

Aaron said...

There is nothing more nausiating than having to listen to the Marlins announcers.

"It's Dan Ugla....And his name is DAN UGLA!!".

There announcers scream like they just won the world series while the 14 fans that showed up for the game do the same thing.

I can't believe we haven't won 1 series against these ass clowns all freakin year????

Not a good night for the Phillies or the Brewers. The Phillies dealt with a very random Umpire with a very tight Strike Zone. Good News? Offense did fine. Bad News? Myers melted down in part due to the umpire and short rest that did not help his fastball. The back end of the pen was atttttttrocious.

86-67 The Mutts are in First Place.1/2 Game Lead with 9 to play.

86-68 The Phillies lost to the Marlins who have won 9 straight.
1/2 game back with 8 to play.

84-70 The Brewers lost again.
2 gamesbacks of the Phillies in the Wild Card.

81-72 Both the Marlins and Astro Win. 4 1/2 games back of the Phillies with 9 to play.

Good Luck tomorrow Phils!

ripjgarcia said...

Carson.. all you care about is the Phillies doing what you said.. You sound like Charlie Manuel when he throws Seanez and then Walrond in... this game reminds me of a HUGE back and forth game.. Charlie cried uncle... and thats some horseshit in my opinion

ripjgarcia said...

I realize that you and Corey live on my side of the 202 split...

I got to watch Philliy 57 tonight... (bless plug in antenna) And every chance we had..

Magic Number 7 for the Wild Card

Magic Number 10 for the NL East Crown.
