12 Games Remain

Holy crap, it's the middle of September already. I remember anxiously awaiting the first pitch of the 2008 Philadelphia Phillies season back on a cold day in March, and yet here we are with only 12 games remaining on the schedule and the Phils in the thick of the NL playoff picture. Things didn't always look so good for the Phightins though, but thanks to some recent events they're sitting pretty.

Recent Events:
*Phils sweep Brewers in 4 games, with manager Ned Yost getting axed afterward. I truly believe that WSBGM's played a small role in this firing.

*Mets are once again on the way to becoming the MLB laughingstock as they're on the verge of a second straight September swoon that plays them right out of the playoffs.

*Hurricane knocks the hottest team in baseball out of their hometown right into a "neutral site" in Milwaukee and the Astros end up being beaten into submission by the Cubs.

*Ryan Howard, Jimmy Rollins, and Jayson Werth are kick starting the offense while the pitching continues to hold up their end of the deal.

*Jamie Moyer (14-7, 3.68) and the Phils take on rookie James Parr (1-0, 0.00 in 2 starts) and the Braves in Atlanta.

*Mike Pelfrey (13-9, 3.77) and the Mets face Odalis Perez (6-10, 4.48) and the Nationals in Washington.

*CC Sabathia (15-8, 2.81) and the Brewers square off against Ryan Dempster (15-6, 3.02) and the Cubs in Chicago.

New Brewers manager Dale Sveum was a Phucco.

Cubbies will allow what tonight? 2 hits for the Brewers? Odalis Perez needs to shtu down the Mets. The Mets bullpen is hurting bad.

Moyer could come up big tonight and propel the Phils into first place for both the wild card and division. Old Mr Reliable

I hate saying tonight is the biggest game of the year, but it quite possibly is. Phils win they at least remain tied for NL Wild Card and .5 back of the Mets. Phils win and Mets and Brewers lose, Phils are then 1 game up on the Wild Card and a half game up on the Mets. So yeah, it's pretty big.

can not believe both the mets and stros dropped their games last night. this is the time phils, let's get in the driver's seat

Let's put another one in the Win Column for the Phightin' Phils!

Why in the world did they fire that guy Scott Graham?

Anyone know?

GM-Carson said...

By the way, Scott Eyre has come out and said he'd like to be back with the Phils in 2009, even if it's only on a 1 year deal. Do it- 1 year 1.5 mil.

GM-Carson said...

All these warm fuzzy feel-good feelings on here this morning. Man this is a happy place when the Phils are winning and teams we hate are losing.

Scott Graham needs to come back. Graham Slam Ice Cream isn't the same without him. It's a shame to think he does College Basketball games now when he used to be the most recognizable voice on radio.

I mean the guy they have now is ok... but the Phillies still have Wheeler! There is room for improvement. And Kalas can't work forever.

dr. steve said...

How about we start a Bring Scott Graham Back movement?

GM-Carson said...

I wasn't a big Scott Graham fan.

Kalas and Wheeler will be in the booth until they decide to leave.

Because I watch nearly every game, I think no matter who they got to do tv/radio I would get annoyed with because of hearing them so often.

Or until Harry kills Chris... whichever comes first.

We need Moyer to pitch another gem ... hey, by the way, when was the last time a 45-year-old pitcher won 15 games in a season?

You think the Mets can become the Buffalo Bills of baseball. One choke job after another?

BloodStripes said...

With the mutts schedule playing 17 straight to finish the season and 6 left against Chicago they may choke all the way to oblivion. Their rotation and bullpen won't handle it. I reckon the Phils will win the division and play LA and Houston or Milwaukee will take the wild card and play Chicago.

Phils once again came back from the dead just when I was about to accept defeat. But lets not get too happy just yet...The phils have a made a habit of losing a lot after winning a huge series like the one they just sweept against the Brewers.

Come on Phils!! You gotta win me one world series.....i am going to die some day so before then would be great.

84-67 the Phightin's are in First Place a top the NL East after tonights great Win over the Braves. The game included two late game saving plays - one by Ryan Howard, and one by Pedro Feliz.
Team work! 1/2 Game Lead with 11 to play over the Mutts.

83-67 the Mutts lost to the Nationals. 1/2 game back with 12 to play.

83-68 the Brewers lost to the Cubs.
1 game back of the Phillies (if they need the Wild Card), 1/2 game back of the Mets in the Wild Card race.

80-70 the Astro lost to the Marlins. 3 1/2 games back of the Phillies. Ed Wade once again mortgages the future and comes up short.

78-72 - 78 72 the Cardinals lost to the Reds, and the Marlins beat the Astros. 5 1/2 games back. Barring a 1964 or a 2007 Collapse -
Stick a Fork in them in a day or two - they are both done.

That game looked like a loss, but ended up being a win, so I'm happy. Everyone else lost, so I'm really happy.
