Taking Mom's Advice

I'm trying to turn over a new leaf and stay positive in regards to the Phillies. That's proving to be a difficult endeavor. I'd love nothing more than to go off on one of my patented rants and rip everyone from Charlie Manuel's gut, to Cole Hamels' vagina-arm, to the headlights that scared the crap outta Ryan Madson, but I'll refrain. My mother always told me if I had nothing nice to say, then I should say nothing at all. Well, here's what I have to say about the Phils...

I'm Getting A Chubby:
Not only have the Phils added a chubby pitcher in Joe Blanton, they've now added the stocky Matt Stairs. He's known as a professional hitter, meaning he can't field a lick. He's 40 years old and is still under contract for $1 million next season. He's an upgrade to the bench, but I can't see him making that much of a difference. That doesn't mean I'm not happy to seem him come aboard, because I am. The dude is Canadian and that's all I need. Career line- 733 r, 1308 h, 282 dbl, 252 hr, 859 rbi, .266 avg, .840 OPS.

After that bad call yesterday, Howard looked like the Cookie Monster having a fit.

Matt Stairs does not make any sense for this team. All he will mount to is a glorified pinch hitter. What this team needed was a speedy defensive replacement type who was already a compotent pinch hitter. That is why Kotsay made the most sense. The same could have been said about former Philly Kenny Lofton. I would have rather seen both here, especially with the way Manuel likes to yank Burrell out of games (I still don't understand why he continues to do that, but I digress). Anyway, Stairs is a prototype of what the Phils already are. A potential homerun threat who will strike out a lot more than he goes yard. He is not much of an upgrade over Taguchi, but I guess he is one nonetheless.

Since Pat Gillick is probably done tweeking the offense, he now needs to turn his attnetion to the bullpen. He really needs to get another reliever in here by tomorrow's deadline. That being said, Fuentes for Marson better not happen! I will be pissed if Marson is part of any deal! Good hitting/compotent calling catchers are hard to find. The Phils need to hold onto this guy!

Stairs was a good move. He'll add a bat and upgrade our bench.

He has 6 HR and 10 RBI in CBP. He has solid numbers at CBP in limited ABs.

Hopefully we don't have to give up much. If we dont give up much, that would make me like this move. I heard Carrasco could be the guy, which would make me very unhappy, but it looks like it will be Fabio Castro, which im OK with.

The Phillies did not give up Carrasco for Matt Stairs..

Where do you guys get this stuff?

I am OK with Lidge, Romero, Durbin, Eyre, and Condrey. Madson is OK as a long reliever/mopup. But Seanez needs to be replaced- if its Castro over him then its OK, but he is an unknown right now. But another RP would be good to get prior to the deadline. Stairs does not replace Taguchi so another bat (righty) would be helpful. They actually needed a hitter not someone with "pop" as they have a lineup full of "pop". It shows in the SO's as wel as the Hr's.

The deal is Fabio Castro to the Blue Jays for Stairs. Castro must pass through waivers first. If he gets claimed, the Phils will pull him back then send him to Toronto during the offseason instead.

I'm curious about today's game, hope the boys come out with their heads up and knock the ball around the yard, we need to serve up an ass kickin'

Another blown call leads to another Cubs run. Fukudome was out at 1st, but umps rules him safe. This series smells fishy to me.

For what it's worth, the FOX broadcast team mentioned that the Phils are kicking the tires on Kyle Farnsworth.

Also, I agree with you Carson. There is something fishy about this series. The umpiring has been terrible!

Brett Myers sitting in that dugout looks like he might kill somebody if the Phillies blow this lead.

Dude seriously which one of the Cubs is blowing the umpires?? Something is not right here.
Nice win but of course we couldn't possibly just win the game we have to have a heart attack in the 8th inning every day now.

The Mets are pissing me off with there first inning runs. They should not be winning as much as they are with that shitty bullpen.

COME ON MARLINS!!!!!!!!
GIVE US SOME DAMN HELP!!!

3-3 mets marlins. bottom of the 8th and mike Jacobs just hit a game-tying solo homerun.

Mutts lost 4-3 in the bottom of the 9th! Heilman walked in the Winning RUN!

ONE BACK.

marlins win on the always exciting walk-off walk.

Good win by the Marlins.

Pelfrey held them at bay for a while...

I really thought there might be issues with the Mets bullpen down this stretch...

My hope is that their issues outrank the Phils issues.

The Mets bullpen is atrocious. If they hold on to win the East it would be a miracle and a damn shame.
