So Shocking!

8 innings of struggles against Darth Santana coupled by the fact Joe Blanton did his best Adam Eaton impersonation and on the verge of conceding 1st place to the Mets...disheartening.

Jose "I freakin' hate him" Reyes making a mental fielding gaffe, So Taguchi collecting his 1st pinch hit of the season to knock in 2 runs, and the Phils posting 6 runs in the 9th against the Mets horrendous bullpen sustaining 1st place for the time being...shocking.

Although I am prone to typos, the line above about that being Taguchi's first pinch hit of the season is actually correct. He was 0-16 entering last night's game. Guess he just bought himself some more time on the Phils roster with that heroic effort last night.

Tonight is the return of self-proclaimed "Rock Star" Brett Myers from his minor league deportation. Yeah, okay.

From Phillies.com-
Tidbits:
Pat Burrell needs one home run at Shea Stadium to tie Atlanta's Chipper Jones for the most home runs hit at the ballpark by an active visiting player. Burrell currently has 18, while Jones has 19. ... Catcher Chris Coste is in a 2-for-29 slump since July 2. He was not in Tuesday's starting lineup and struck out in a seventh-inning pinch-hit appearance. ... Ryan Howard singled in the first inning Tuesday and has now had at least one hit in 19 of the Phillies' last 20 games.

How about Jimy Williams pinch hitting his backup catcher in the 7th inning which forced him to have to let Ruiz bat in the Bottom of the 9th. Williams and Manuel are perfect for each other.

When Taguchi got that hit, I began to cool my ass on the freeze-over breeze wafting up from hell below.

Big win though, it was nice to watch the Mets fans squirm.

Did anyone else see that So Taguchi was 20 for 40 with the bases loaded in his career before that hit? How is that possible?

Also, freakin awesome

I am not in favor of the Antique Rhodes Show returning to Philly, but Arthur did pitch 1 scoreless inning against the BoSox last night striking out the side lowering his era to 2.75 and whip to 1.22.

Antique Rhodes? We already have Gordon and Seanez here stinking up the joint. Seanez looks bad despite his 2something ERA.

If Myers faulters, can we have Happ return to the rotation and Myers the setup guy?

GM-Carson said...

I read recently that there's no timetable to Gordon's return, which means likely about 1 more month on the DL.

Seanez hasn't been good despite his decent era. However, I'm still glad we have him because we could do a lot worse.

Man, I was enjoying the commentary on the victory over the Flushing Scumbags and then this guy has to go and ruin it by asking if Myers can go back to being our set up guy. To answer your question: F*CK NO. We absolutely cannot add two guys to our bullpen, from our starting rotation nonetheless, with a combined ERA over twelve. Why the hell would you even consider it???? Both M*ers and Ea*on (i now consider their names expletives) have proven that there is NO role for them on this team. The only logical reason to put either guy in the bullpen is that it makes them available for verbal fan abuse everyday instead of once a week(due to the location and proximity of the bullpen to Ashburn Alley). I'll take my chances with Blanton and Happ. My*rs and Eat*n get quit, get fired, be hung publically, eat s*it, whatever. Sure can't f*cking wait for go*damn B*ett Fuc*ing Mye*s to *&^%pitch to*&^t and f*cking #@$!.

Wow...anyway...

I don't think this game is going to go down tonight. Apparently there's a 90% chance of rain in Queens. What are the odds of a day-night doubleheader tomorrow if it doesn't precipitate tomorrow afternoon?

GM-Carson said...

Weather forecast at Shea looks horrible for both tonight and tomorrow. Maybe we'll get that sweep after all, a 1 game sweep that is.

Brett Myers will be traded this offseason, I'm counting on that. He'll then go and pitch well where ever he's traded, I'm counting on that too. Oh yeah, we'll eat part of the contract and get shit in return...also counting on that.

In general I hate Mets fans, not all of them, but a lot of them. Reading that crap over at Metsblog is crazy. I thought we were a rough group at times, but we're nothing compared to that bunch of aholes.

Jose Reyes celebrates everything, he probably gives high fives in the lockeroom following a pee-pee in the potty for crying out loud. Tatis makes me sick with his antics. Dude was lost for 2+ years and now he comes back and has 1 good month and now all of a sudden he thinks he's Joe Nammoth. So go ahead and pick of Vic, J-Roll, and Utley. Like Utley said, "Boo? F**K you".

Boogerking said...

Wait a minute...if the game gets rained out that would give Hamels the extra ten hours of rest that Manuel said was preventing him from pitching so why can't Hamels take the next start? With enough properly timed rain outs we wont even need Myers to take a turn in the rotation for the rest of the year. See, now I'm thinking positive.

I love looking at stats. I came across this amazing show of consistency by Shane Victorino- '06: .287/.346/.414, '07: .281/.347/.423, and so far in '08: .279/.347/.412.

We're getting exactly what we're supposed to and should expect from him.

From the looks of it, Myers is pitching like a turd so far tonight.

GM-Carson said...

I want to kill Chris Wheeler. He's making all types of excuses for Brett Myers tonight. He said "at least he's consistently wild, because you can figure that out", and "Myers held the damage there" after that shitty 1st inning.

Jacobin said...

So after tonight's game, Myers improves to a sucktastic 0-6 with a 7.91 ERA in 10 starts on the road this year. I realize it isn't his fault the offense didn't score more runs, but this shit is painful. I mucking hate the Fets, and I don't need to see Jose Reyes running around the bases pointing his finger at the sky (although this might be a tribute to David Bell and their forbidden love).

The trade deadline is looming... please tell me the Phils are going to do something better than unloading a few decent prospects for Butterbean Blanton.

Self-confidence is having confidence in oneself when considering a capability. Overconfidence is having unmerited confidence--believing something or someone is capable when they are not. Scientifically, a situation can only be judged after the aim has been achieved or not. Confidence can be a self-fulfilling prophecy, as those without it may fail or not try because they lack it, and those with it may succeed because they have it, rather than because of an innate ability

Brett Myers, how you feel about all this?

GM-Carson said...

Myers wasn't horrible, but he was a far cry from good. Madson was horrible though. I will never be a fan of his.

From MLBTR-
Robert MacLeod notes the presence of the Phillies' director of Major League scouting at A.J. Burnett's start tonight in Baltimore. Would the Phillies add another starter?
Jim Salisbury talked to Phils GM Pat Gillick about the rumored Matt Holliday blockbuster. Gillick rolled his eyes at the rumor.
In general, Gillick seems higher on catching prospect Lou Marson than pitching prospect Carlos Carrasco.
Gillick's top target is a left-handed reliever, with a bat on the radar as well. Some kind of acquisition is a "good possibility."
