Picking Up The Slack

Yesterday Corey held true to his word and is braving the world of WNBA blogging, quite the trailblazer he is. He's sworn off Phils for the foreseeable future (aka- until they start winning again), therefore I must pick up the slack here at WSBGM's. While Corey sorts out a conversion chart for a size 16 EEEE in women's, I could focus on the upcoming series between the Braves and the Phillies, but that would be boring and infuriating. To keep things fresh and funky (like old school rap) I think I'll go ESPN 8 "The Ocho" on here and dabble into some lesser talked about sports. First on the docket...

Rock-Paper-Scissors. Yes, the time-tested decision making game has an official league and is played worldwide in high-stakes tournaments for big money. Many naysayers believe it is a game of luck rather than skill, but to intellectuals they know there is a strategy to winning (this is why Charlie Manuel loses every time, I keep telling him "stick" isn't an option). The competitors get sponsored by beer companies (cool game to play intoxicated), rake in the babes, and travel the world...sounds like a sweet gig to me.

Tomorrow I will expose you to the modern day Dungeons and Dragons meets Risk game- Heroscape, if the Phils don't pull out a victory. So, gear up for some total geekdom.

I think you should probably focus in on World of Warcraft and how people have their asses welded to computer chairs after playing for 96 straight hours.

Kyle Kendrick on the hill tonight. I usually have a good feeling when he's on the mound because he has looked good most of the year, but we'll see. I'm not going to hold my breath.

I really don't want the Phils to keep losing, but I've got plenty of ammo (silly sports/games) if they continue to do so.

On the subject of losing, are the Phils coming full circle? The Phils last series win was 3 weeks ago as they swept a 3 game set in Atlanta. Since then they gone on to lose to the Marlins, Cardinals, Red Sox, Angels, and Rangers. Today starts another series against the Braves though, so maybe just maybe they can right the ship.

Oh look at that optimism trying to peek out. Apparently you still have some hope in you. I wish I could say that, but the eternal pessimist in me does not mesh well with the Phillies and never has considering they haven't done much in my lifetime to be happy about.

is heroscape that game where you have to click some dial on your figures to increase their stats or something? if so, they seriously have a league for that shit?

C.M.R.- I have a friend that is deep into Heroscape and he actually won some prizes for placing 2nd in a tournament.

right now, i want to cockslap this blog.

Furiousball, I sense that you are unhappy with the direction of things lately.

I thought Heroscape was a gardening term. You know, like when I cut the lawn really fast or actually edge the flower beds. World RPS is going to be America's new favorite pass-time.I would like to see a franchise come to Philly. Maybe Pat Croce would be interested in the GM position. It makes total sense for us to have a franchise what with the huge grade school talent pool in Southeast PA.Why continue to allow gifted young athletes to be stolen away to other cities? We need to create a home for our local players.Screw building a soccer stadium in Chester.Let's lobby to use the facility to grab a WRPS franchise.

I'm with boogerking. If we develop these players now, maybe we'll finally have a parade down Broad Street in my lifetime.

(I was five days old when the Phils won in '80, 3 when the Sixers swept the Lakers in '83)

A world Rock-Paper-Scissors championship doesn't have quite the same ring to it as a Wold Series title, but I guess we'll take what we can get. Better than being named America's fattest city I supppose.

Boogerking said...

What a parade that would be Stephanie Grace. We could even put a foam hand on William Penn's Statue with one of the three options. I guess paper would be most appropriate, signifying the signing of Penn's Purchase.Imagine Howard Eskin arguing with callers about choosing paper over rock. This sport has a lot of potential.

Stephanie Grace said...

Very true. I like RPS as much as the next girl but seeing Pat Burrell's giant, drunk ass hanging off of a float at Broad and Shunk would be bliss.

Hey, at least we have that notable murder rate thing going for us. Look out Detroit!

"We could even put a foam hand on William Penn's Statue with one of the three options."

Dude, "rock" would look amazing. Fight the power!

Boogerking said...

Currently the statue is pointing a finger at the art museum.I believe in WRPS that is considered a non-selection foul and results in a power play for your opponent allowing him two selections to your one on the next play.Popular WRPS goons garner a lot of fan support by selecting the middle finger to taunt opponents but rack up a lot of costly penaltys.

GM-Carson said...

Never did I imagine people actually going into so much depth about RPS in the comment section today. What does that say about this commenting group on here? Better yet, what does that say about our depressing Phillies?

GreggyD said...

I was just at the USRPS website and they have a pretty funny flash game where you play Barack Obama and have to ro sham bo all the way to the White House by beating the likes of George Bush, Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, CA governor Ahhhhnold, Hillary Clinton, and finally John McCain. Good way to waste 10 minutes of your day as it winds down.

GM-Carson said...

That's what I'm here for, a diversion from the crapfest known as the Phillies. Glad I could bring enjoyment to your otherwise dull day.

There is a God!!!!!

Brett Myers was just optioned to Lehigh Valley!!!!!

It's about damn time...

Burton said...

HeroScape and Phillies...Interesting combination. One is for a bunch of losers, and the other is a bunch of losers.

At the rate the Phils are going, rock, paper, scissors might be too difficult...and yet they're still on top of the NL East?

GreggyD said...

So now that Myers is gone (!!!!!!!) who takes his spot? They can skip his next scheduled start but will need someone in about a week and a half. I wonder who they're thinking of. My money is on Happ, followed by Carrasco, and then Benson. It all depends how Benson does in his next start of course.

GM-Carson said...

Wow, Brett Myers really has been sent down to the Triple A Lil' Piggies of the Lehigh Valley. A-freakin-men to this demotion. The guy is a whiny bawl-baby pissy-pants that deserves a slap in the face.

Hopefully this move sends a shockwave through the rest of the Phils clubhouse and serves as a wake-up call.

Bob D said...

The great interest in RPS show that we don't have a life.

Myers accepts the demotion to AAA, I wonder if his 3-9 record will help the losingest team in the minors?

SirAlden said...

Myers impressed me.

Hope you turn things around Brett we will leave a light on for you.

GM-Carson said...

Brett has the golden opportunity to go down to Triple A and figure things out and come back and pitch well, he'll be a friggin' hero then.

GM-Carson said...

Putting the "shift" on Ryan Howard is like kryptonite to Superman, or temptation to a sinner, or a cockblock to a single tail-chasing man. Basically, it puts him on lockdown!

Corey said...

why doesn't he just hit a few groundballs to third base?

Bob D said...

Whats this? A game with key hits good running, good defense, solid pitching? We spent the last 2 days trashing this team and they respond by playing a solid game. And they didn't rely just on the 3run homer.

Will we be back to RPS or Phillies tommorow?

Mike said...

So much for the Heroscape post...

Hopefully, Happ will take Myers' spot in the vaunted Phils rotaton.

GreggyD said...

Looks like RJ Swindle will be replacing Myers seeing as that's who was called up. I'm pretty excited about the move.

SirAlden said...

RJ Swindle with his nasty nasty 55 mph curve!

He will be covering Condrey while he is on babytime.

I hope Swindle does well and opposing batters screw themselves into the ground! swing Swing SWING!

BloodStripes said...

At last a good win.

GM-Carson said...

A good solid win, didn't see that coming.

Corey will be happy that the Great Rock n Rock RJ Swindle is coming on tour to Philly.

Glad the Phils won, but I had Heroscape and Badmitten lined up for today. Why badmitten? Just wanted to say shuttlecock.

Boogerking said...

First of all, I invented all my comments concerning RPS rules.Second, whoever said "I was impressed with Myers" and "we'll leave a light on for you" should go hang themselves.Myers was never impressive(don't give me some crap about one or two quality starts or lies about his skills as a closer. He sucks.Period.)Losing your f*cking job two years in a row is not the hallmark of a MLB pitcher let alone a good MLB pitcher.Third, R.J. Swindle is a piece of crap.Side-armers don't fool anyone in the majors.Every contact by the bat sends the ball deep.He will give up more homers than Myers and that shouldn't be possible or tolerated.J.A.Crap can't pitch. We saw that last year.I am somewhat happy by Myers demotion but he will be back to suck again if he remains with our organization.Benson is obviously garbage or he'd have been in the bullpen by now. There is no answer.O)ur pitching is awful.Trade Ryan Howard for a real pitcher. That's if you think we can fool other teams into thinking Howard actually has something to contribute to a MLB franchise.Clearly, he adds no value to our lineup here. The next time Myers crashes and burns I sincerely hope it's on the NE extension on the way to Coca-Cola park.

Boogerking said...

In the interest of continuing the spirit of "The Ocho" diversion I offer you this,GM. Brett Myers is a shuttlecock sucker.
