The year was 2006 and Phillies GM Pat Gillick was in search of an arm that could spot start, as well as do long and short relief (2008's Chad Durbin). Gillick's quest guided him to Ryan Franklin...he was misguided! Franklin soon became a whipping boy for the fans as he lost 5 games in relief while surrendering 10 homeruns. By the beginning of August Gillick had seen enough and shipped him to Cincy for some minor leaguer; Pat even had to throw money into the deal to coax the Reds into taking him. Franklin finished the 2006 season with the Reds and went on to sign as a free agent with the St. Louis Cardinals, whom the Phils happen to be facing this weekend.

Since going to where Scott Rolen once referred to as "baseball heaven" Ryan has flourished posting a 3.04 era and 1.01 whip in '07 and now he's the interim closer with Jason Isrignhausen on the DL and has amassed 8 saves this season while dropping his era to 2.45. The dude absolutely sucked with the Phils, go figure he becomes reliable since being exiled.

Victory!: A win is a win. Aside from Jamie Moyer's masterful performance, last night was kind of ugly. Grand Pappy went 8 shutout innings racking up his 9th career victory against the Marlins in his 9th start against the franchise...that's ownership. The Phils were lucky to pull out the
W though as they stranded a ton of runners, especially late in the game with the bases loaded. Ryan Howard continues to plummet, but hey don't worry, every team has a starting 1st baseman batting near .200 leading the Majors in strikeouts right? I'm not going to go on a rant right now because the Phils did win after all. However, the offense better pick it up because the schedule from here until the All-Star break is an extremely tough one.

It seems that everytime the Phils need a win, Jamie Moyer pitches...and he pitches well.
With the way Moyer is pitching it's quite possible he could go until he's 50.
i'm going to contact dictionary.com and let them know that after seeing ryan's picture, i found a perfect image for "douchebag"
Douchebag? More like Irish rock star.
same thing
True, Bono might very well be the biggest humanitarian in the world, but dude is a douchebag.
Actually I have THE BEST EVER douchebag picture...Speaking of pictures, Ryan Franklin kinda has the look in a Phillies uni like Brett Myers smacked himm around after he complimented Brett's wife. Alright, thats not nice. But they both qualify as DBs right now so I don't care.
Problem is, if we ever signed Franklin again he would blow donkey nuts just like before...the best part about Moyer was that the Marlins announcers were ragging on him saying that he couldnt see Ruiz' fingers, and thats why they were doing the hand signals...maybe they should have realized he was no-hitting them at the time.
Nearly everything about the Marlins is annoying, I've really grown to hate them.
i like bono because his name sounds like boner and boner is a funny word.
Jamie Moyer - almost 46 years old ... Bret Myers must feel embarrassed, right?
Brett Myers should be ashamed that Adam Eaton is having a better year than him.
Good game so far against the Cards.
back-to-back-to-back.
and Kyle Kendrick had 2 hits in one inning. half way to the cycle.
couple of touchdowns and the cards are back in this thing
haha. if only it was that easy.
and thankfully it's not.
This is some nice run support for Kendrick tonight.
20 runs! I love it.
Hopefully they score this many for Adam Eaton and Brett Myers who'll probably need it.
The Phillies now have not taken a loss in Kendrick's last 11 games. It cracks me up to think that if this rotation were to be set-up from top to bottom again from best to worst it would read:
1. Hamels
2. Moyer
3. Kendrick
4. Eaton
5. Myers
So much for the offense not performing. That was fantastic. I was out at a party all night so I didn't see the game, but I loved having all the text alerts roll in throughout the evening. Let's make it 3 in a row tomorrow.
