Let My People Go!

The Oppressors: Jon Lester, Justin Masterson, Ervin Santana, and Joe Saunders. This fearsome foursome has caused to Phils to go into a 4 game losing streak tailspin in which they scored only 7 runs, collected 20 hits for a .160 batting average, and struck out 32 times.

Today's competitor comes in the form of California born and raised surfer boy Jered Weaver. Like Moses proclaimed, "Let my people go!".

Struggling:
Brett Myers is struggling this season, struggling to be anything that resembles a quality pitcher. In fact, he's the antonym of quality, he's inferior. He's fallen to 3-9 on the season with a 5.51 era and 1.51 whip while surrendering a MLB leading 23 homeruns. I could go the route of suggesting I could hit a homerun off of this no-talent ass-clown, but I'm 6'3" 245, so that's within the realm of possibility. To completely insult Myers, I will instead suggest even Rafael Belliard would take Myers deep twice in the same ball game.

The Night Time is the Right Time:
As Phils Phans we put all of our hopes squarely on the shoulders of Cole Hamels to pitch us out of this rut. We need to be careful in over-wishing though as Cole's day/night splits are spooky- 4.84 era/1.40 whip during the day, 3.08/1.04 at night. This reminds me of the hilarious Joining the Cult skit by Adam Sandler...the night time is the right time!

we need a win big time

It just sucks that we're always so down that we're practically begging for a win from Cole.

I wouldn't be surprised if Cole went 8 innings, giving up 2 hits, and 1 run with 11 K's and the offense would post a goose egg. Something needs to be done at the plate.

And I don't believe that the offense excuses Brett Myers either. After all of his miserable starts this year, he doesn't deserve to be outed. Brett Myers '08 = Adam Eaton '07.

Is there a way we can clone Hamels about 4 times, like in that movie Multiplicity?

Two runners in scoring position and one out and Howard/Burrell proceed to strike out in succession.

Not surprisingly, as I started typing Matthews knocked in Guerrero on a base hit and now Kotchman has crushed one into right field.

3-0 Angels with 1 out in the top of the 2nd. God this team f*cking sucks.

And Utley is finally getting a break today. He needs a day off to hopefully bring him out of his very uncharacteristic slump.

Correction: He didn't play yesterday. I just saw the story on Utley on Phillies.com and thought it was for today. I didn't have a chance to check the box score for last night to see he sat out. So, rather than deleting the comment and my non-awareness of the Phillies' lineups, I'll leave it up.

In the mean time, Utley has doubled so the 0fer is over.

This team is simply disgusting and pathetic. Worth 1st place team in baseball...not for long.

From MLBTR-
The Phillies could enter the mix for Sabathia as well; however, they'd have to give up top pitching prospect Carlos Carrasco. Carrasco is the top rated Phillies prospect for the second straight year by Baseball America.

Phillies: Smelling World Series, they see C.C. Sabathia, Erik Bedard, A.J. Burnett, Bronson Arroyo, and Derek Lowe as potential targets.

*"Smelling World Series"...hahaha! All I smell is shit right now.

Im "So" glad this game will be in the hands of Taguchi.

Why did Coste pinch-hit for Dobbs against Shields? Shields is a righty, Dobbs kills righties. I was listening on the radio at that point in the game so maybe I'm missing something, or Manuel back to being a Grade F R-Tard?

Taguchi has proven to be a waste of roster space, I'd much rather have Chris Snelling pinch-hitting. Not that Snelling is that great, it's that Tag is that f'n bad.

5 losses in a row now...this is the Phillies I've come to love/hate over my lifetime.

Darren Oliver (lefty) was pitching when Dobbs came up and Manuel therefore pinch-hit with Coste, which lead to a pitching change of Shields...makes sense now.

Wow, is there any worse way to end a baseball game than with two men on and then a pop-up in foul territory for the third out? This team can't buy a win. Cole did sacrifice those three runs in the second, but was stellar the rest of the way. Hell, even Ryan Madson had a nice inning of work.

It's a good thing that they didn't tie that game and go into extras because once again, Manuel was out of moves off of the bench. It hasn't seemed to matter as much this year as it did last season, but that's going to come back and bite this team in the ass multiple times before the season is out. The Phils had better take advantage of this day off. First place will be no more if this keeps up.

Regarding Sabathia: If they have to trade Carrasco, I don't make the move. I should have figured that he would be one piece that would be demanded from Cleveland. If they can work out a deal that includes Bastardo, Golson, and possibly someone else, along with throwing in Taguchi for fun, I would think about the deal, but ONLY if they know they can re-sign him. But I highly doubt that they will be able to pull the trigger unless Carlos is included in the deal. Plus, CC does weight 430 lbs and that might catch up with him sooner or later. It's hard to live the Rich Garces lifestyle.

Don't worry fellas. We never play well against the AL. 6 more games to go then it's off to murdering NL pitching.

Time to create an injury excuse for Myers and send him down for a 2 week rehab assignment and call up Bastardo, Carrasco, Happ, or Malone for a start or 2. Maybe we could strike gold like Kendrick did last year.

"Don't worry fellas. We never play well against the AL."

Problem, Gonzo: You kind of have to beat the AL to win the World Series...just a thought.

Gonzo said...

I realize that Greggy D. I'm trying to look on the bright side here!

GreggyD said...

I wasn't trying to bash you. I just have no bright side to look on seeing as they are 3-9 since their sweep of the Braves and coincidentally, Brett Myers' record consists of those same numbers. The pitching has been decent besides the first two innings, but the offense is absolutely dreadful. I know that it's a "marathon" of a season, but that doesn't make this skid feel any better.

All around the blogsphere I'm hearing talk of Phillies and World Series...let's worry about the playoffs first which I believe will be difficult to get into.
