Just Win!

Message from the Phillie Phaithful to the Phils while on their awful Left Coast trip- Just Win! "Awful" Left Coast trip? Yes, because any time a game starts after my bedtime (10:05 pm) that's just not cool.

Moyer vs. Blanton tonight. I'll be watching with my eyes closed on my California King.

Hot Rumor- The New York Post's Joel Sherman reports the Philadelphia Phillies indicated they would trade 22-year-old P Fabio Castro in a deal to acquire Colorado Rockies CL Brian Fuentes, which makes them the early frontrunners to get him.

*Fuentes is good, but our bullpen is already good. We need a starting pitcher!

That would make the pen scary good. Gordon could be the mopup guy.

Agreed we need a starter or 2 for this team.

As I pointed out (or rather a witty read of that rumor pointed out) in comments to yesterdays post, Castro is 23 and left handed, which makes me wonder if Sherman knows what he's even talking about.

Fuentes would be an upgrade to Gordon in every way thinkable and if we could get him for Castro, thats a steal.

I agree that having Gordon rest more and come in during not so tight situations would be ideal. That could give Condrey the boot. I definitely agree that we still need a starting pitcher, but maybe Pat Gillick will pull the strings to bring in (dare I say it) BOTH!

I can't remember the last time that I was satisfied with the Phils at the deadline. Let's hope that Patty makes his last one a good one.

I'll try my best to keep my eyes open for most of the game tonight, but no guarantees on that one. Moyer always finds ways to keep us in games and I don't see why tonight should be any different. It's all just a matter of whether or not the offense can pull some hits out of their asses.

if by "having Gordon rest more" you mean him not pitching at all... i agree

Last year we got Romero, Lohse, and I-guchi during the season, so Gillick will likely make a few moves to set the roster.

A callup of Marson if Ruiz is traded would be the best for now and long term for the Phils. Coste could do the majority of catching(60%). Kendrick would also be another player who has trade value, but that would mean obtaining 2 starters. Calling up someone like we did with Kendrick last year could likely happen soon.

Others who have trade value beside prospects are: Victorino, Werth, Madson, and dare I say Howard (although his trade value is quite low now). I wouldn't entertain Victorino or Werth trades too much but it doesn't hurt to ask. Myers could be had in a trade if you don't mind getting less in the trade.

I'll be up at 1005 to watch/listen to the game.

From MLBTR-
Back on June 19th, ESPN's Jayson Stark said the Phillies had "at least kicked the tires on C.C. Sabathia, A.J. Burnett, Bronson Arroyo, and Jarrod Washburn." He also expected them to inquire on Erik Bedard. Scott Lauber says the Phils have scouted Sabathia, Burnett, Ben Sheets, and Greg Maddux recently.

Jim Salisbury of the Philadelphia Inquirer weighs in this morning on the Phillies' trade chips. He names Shane Victorino, Jayson Werth, Carlos Carrasco, Lou Marson, Greg Golson, and Adrian Cardenas as Phillies players other teams may covet. However, Salisbury believes Pat Gillick might opt for a midlevel acquisition and hang on to his top young players. Check out our starting pitcher trade market post for ideas.

Salisbury speculates on possible targets aside from the aforementioned names: Roy Oswalt and Rich Harden. Salisbury is speculating with these names, but notes that "the Astros had a high-ranking scout in Philadelphia on Sunday."

Agreed - we need to win. Unfortunately, our bats might be in trouble against a good A's pitching staff.

Pat the bat putting one over the wall and Moyer making the most of it so far.

C'mon Phils!

Moyer must have borrowed Romero's arm for the night. 9 strikeouts after 6. Throwin' heat!

This ump is having a hard time tonight...he's calling everything as a strike, but Moyer is taking advantage a lot more than Blanton (unsurprisingly). If Greg Maddux were pitching tonight, the strike zone would be about 25 square feet...

Moyer should offer this guy a cut of his salary to just follow him around and ump every game of his.

BloodStripes said...

Yeah big zone but we'll take it. MOyer put his own arm back on and tired. 3 run homer. Can't always pitch a shutout. Offense not taking advantage.
