F'ugly

Damn, that was one helluva f'ugly game. How f'ugly was it?

*The Mets scored 8 runs on only 5 hits.

*One error, two error, three error, four! Allow me to put that into perspective- 7 teams haven't committed that many errors all season, and the Phils stellar defense has now made 4 blunders in a game twice in this young season. Currently pacing the Majors with 13 errors and a breathtaking .962 fielding percentage.

*Aerosmith were working overtime last night as Kyle Kendrick walked 6 batters and the bullpen bumped the total up to 9. On the season the Phils pitching staff has now issued 41 walks compared to 43 strikeouts...f'ugly!!!

*Speaking of Kendrick, he's been a complete and utter disappoint thus far- 2 starts, 7.1 ip, 12 h, 8 bb, 1 k, 6.14 era, and 2.73 whip. That's not going to get it done.

*Shane Victorino (.162), Ryan Howard (.188), and Carlos Ruiz's (.185) batting averages are so ugly that No-Hit Nunez is laughing at them.

*Speaking of No-Hit Nunez, Eric Bruntlett filled in for the injured Jimmy Rollins last night and botched 2 plays in the same inning leading to Kendrick and the Phillies demise...Nuni would have made those plays. You know the game was f'ugly when I'm reminiscing about No-Hit Nunez.

*Have no fear, Adam Eaton is here; and he's sure to turn this ugliness into beauty by pitching a gem and leading the Phils to victory tonight to take the series from the Mets.

Yes mate. We can all rest easy with Eaton on the mound. Phils are a sure thing.

Come back J-Roll.

Love your optimism BloodStripes, even if it's blind faith.

How 'bout a rally cry?

You missed the TC update... Burrell was 2-4... thats gotta count for something.

Burrell awesome, rest bad.

I need to give credit to Chad Durbin who has pitched well so far and saved the 'pen last night by going 3.2 innings; era 1.13.

Greg Dobbs is f'ugly too, 1-10 with 5 k's.

2 ex-Phillie starting pitchers have 2 starts on the season and have yet to give up a run, that's a 0.00 era for you math whizzes. Kyle Lohse and Justin Germano.

The Phils love nothing more than taking on and beating the mutts. If Eaton can pitch like his first start the boys will have an excellent chance. Its a big IF though.

Lohse and 2 good outings means his 3rd will be a mashing. Even though its against the Giants.

Germano is pretty good. I was disappointed when he left.

I bet Germano misses the Phillies, too...he's thrown two great starts, hasn't given up a run, and is currently winless.

Also, peripherally: Dobbs' three strikeouts against Aaron Harang (on nine strikes in literally the same location, if I recall correctly) was one of the most embarrassing things (from Dobbs' perspective) and one of the most dominating things (if you're Harang) that I've seen on a major league field in years. Dobbs looked like a confused Little Leaguer up there...he was just massively overmatched.

yea lohse is looking pretty good right now. but i guess we can't crucify him after 2 starts...or can we?

Why do I sense an Adam Eaton dominating performance against the Mutts tonight?

It seems as if this year the things that should work don't (Howard, defense improvement, Myers) and things that shouldn't work do (Eaton, Durbin, bullpen).

Kendrick has not been stellar, but in all fairness to him it's not like he wasn't getting hit last season too. If the defense wasn't taking a dump behind him last night, things would have been a hell of a lot better. You expect batters to make contact when he's pitching, but you also expect your infield to make plays.

GM-Carson said...

Kendrick was wild, but he got the batters into what should have been double plays but the defense behind him was totally whack last night.

Corey and I both predicted Eaton not being nearly as bad as he was last season.

Dobbs looks horrible. Remember for most of the offseason he though he would be starting at 3rd base in a platoon with Helms...

Apparently Ryan Madson's shoulder is a bit sore, but is hopefully available for tonight's game if needed.

The loss of Madson last year was
a bigger loss then most realize.

We have no margin for error. Hope
he will be ok.

The Phils signed STEVE KLINE!!!

Loved the pic! That's how I felt when I saw the highlights of the game (I don't have CN8). Do the Phillies even have infield practice?

GM-Carson said...

Did the Phils really sign Kline? I'm going to check that out.

By the way, Eaton pitching well again, but the much balley-hooed offense is coming up small... actually not at all.

It's official, I read it on Phillies.com, Steve Kline signed to minor league deal. That's a smart move. If he sucks, so what. But I think he'll be up by the beginning of May and help the Phils as a 2nd lefty, especially because JC isn't used just as a situational lefty anymore, dude can get anyone out.

Damnit! I thought they had gay-ass at the plate. Guess the ump wanted to get back to the hotel before room service closed down for the night.

That was a close call on Reyes. There were close calls throughout the game.

Worst play of the game- Eric Bruntlett 3 straight failed bunt attempts failing to move along the runners on 1st and 2nd with no outs...he's horrible!
