God Bless Whitey.
I grew up listening to Whitey and Harry...nothing better than the 2 of them.
From MLBTR-The Phillies would like to conclude their offseason by swapping third baseman Wes Helms and the $2.9MM owed to him for a lefty reliever. According to Paul Hagen of the Philadelphia Daily News, the Phils are talking to the Giants and Reds about Helms. Steve Kline ($1.75MM) or Mike Stanton ($3.5MM) are the targets. The Giants recently picked up Jose Castillo, but they also lost Kevin Frandsen. Moving Kline would make sense, because then they could fit both Merkin Valdez and Erick Threets. The Reds have Jolbert Cabrera and Andy Phillips battling for a bench spot, and don't seem to have a place for Helms.*Give me Steve Kline for Wes Helms straight up in a heart beat...hell, I'd even throw in a mil to offset the cost.
Pirates got Tyler Yates off the Braves for minor leaguer Todd Redmond.
Rehabbing starter Kris Benson chose not to opt out of his contract with the Phillies; his window to do so has passed. According to Todd Zolecki and Jim Salisbury, his contract was restructured yesterday to allow him to opt out on May 15th if he's not on the Phils' 40-man roster.
Helms for a RP, so JD DUrbiN doesn't go north with team.
Byung-Hyun Kim was released in favor of new relief pitcher Tyler Yates from the Pirates roster. If the Phils can get an actual MLB level relief pitcher for Helms that'll be a huge blessing.
Kim? Why would we want a girl to pitch for the Phils? Actually a girl could pitch better than some of the $%&7*# we have on the roster now. Throw underhand at 105 MPH, awesome!
I really don't think the Phillies need Bung Hole Pimp on their roster.
In an interview with Lidge he stated that Gordon is as good as there is when it comes to closing. On fantasy rosters around the world Gordon is being picked up with gusto in the hope of a few early saves. Non Phils fans believe. We as Phils fans have our reservations. As a player its fair enough, you gotta have confidence in your team mates. But what is it about being a fan that makes us worry so much. Take the emotion out of it and its cool. Tom Gordon for a few weeks? Sure, no worries. We need the same trust as the players to help us relax.
BloodStripes- I love your blind faith, but unfortunately I do not share in it with you.
But thats what I am saying mate. I don't necessarily share the faith of the players or non Phils fans either. They are the ones thinking Gordon will be good. It's them saying "Tom Gordon for a few weeks? Sure, no worries". As much as we like Tom Gordon. Its us phans who dread the situation. He comes across as a great person with a fantastic attitude. Very humble and appreciative of his baseball life. The way he acts makes him one of my favourites. Even though he may be somewhat of a liability.
