With the real baseball season about to start tomorrow (screw that Japan series and the fake 1-game series in Washington tonight), I find myself in a sour mood. Why? I'm extremely pessimistic about the Phillies for the first time in 6 seasons. However, this is normally my favorite time of year (yes, beats Christmas), so I need a pick-me-up to get back in better spirits. Thus, I turn to Chase Utley...

"fake" series in washington? anytime you get to see odalis perez toe the rubber, you should get on your knees (or stay there, for some of you) and thank jeebus. you ungrateful bastard.
A 1-game series? That can't be a series if you're only playing 1 game. Doesn't "series" imply 2 or more?
Recentley released Tampa Bay Ray- Grant Balfour is being mentioned as a possible bullpen filler for the Phils...being released by the Rays as a pitcher pretty much makes you bad.
yes, a single event should not be considered a series. so why did you call it that? regardless, it's still not fake, and odalis perez is still pitching, and you need to respect odalis perez. the man hasn't had an era under 5.5 for 5 years and he's an opening day starter. that might be the most amazing accomplishment of the baseball year!
I know many of us hate Pat Gillick and the front office, but I honestly can't believe they're heading into the season with that cast of misfits as the pitching staff. It's a slap in the face to the good guys like Utley, Rollins, Howards and company. All this offense needs is mediocre pitching, yet Gillick and his lapdog Amaro have assembled one of the worst staffs in all of baseball.
don't worry Carson I have just the thing you need here...www.phillieslongdrive.com
I'm in the same boat. Eaton really? Again? Seriously?
Why are you so pessimistic? I mean, our fifth starter is Adam Eat....eh, nevermind.
The Iron Pigs are playing the Phils tough today 5-3 going to the top of the 8th.
yea they are playing them hard. snelling is pissed he didn't make the team and is showing it. i was at the on deck with the phils chamber of commerce thing and helms looked miserable sitting there signing autographs. he also had the shortest line.
Snelling will see time with the Phils this year, and if he plays his cards right he could play himself into a bigger role for '09.
No-Hit Nunez has no made the Brewers...ah, what a shame.
ilm wondering if golson will be ready for 09 maybe have a break out year in lehigh valley. and no suprise nunez didn't make it.
I know this is harsh, but I don't think Golson will ever be a MLB player. He made get a few at bats here and there, but he is far too undisciplined at the plate to make it on a level where pitchers exploit your weaknesses.
yea he's a little erratic at the plate im just hoping he can fix that. wishful thinking i suppose...
When I was a kid I used to love going up to the Black-board and do Factoring on a huge Algebraic Equation that covered two walls. After matching things up and removing them like pairs of tiles from a Ma-Jong board, what often would remain would be something very simple like X = 4 . For the Phillies Pitching staff when you compare last years staff to this and everything matched up, factored away, (If Cole Hamels pitches the same number of innings) is X = 200 innings of Brett Myers in the Starting Rotation + 200 innings of this years back of Bullpen with new bodies and call-ups from the Minor Leagues after the All-Star Break vs. Alphonse Alphonseca, Jose Mesa, Gas Can Gehry, and all the other ineffective innings. These 400 innings will be better than last years. Brett Myers matured last year and is now poised to have the light bulb go on and begin his Schilling Period, and when all is said and down the back of the Bullpen will be better (It cannot be worse). Some times in life Factoring and removing all extraneous things clears away all the issues and leaves you with one clear, pure, and true statement for your life. For each and everyone of us it is different. For me today it will be when I say.... "Will you marry me Amanda Alexander and Root for the Phillies and Little Papi, not the Mini-Me of the Evil Empire the Red Sox (We can both still Root for Big Papi). "
SirAlden- wait, you're proposing marriage today?
