I'm interested to see how Ryan responds to whatever he gets in arbitration. He'll get a nice raise, but hopefully he doesn't have a tool agent in his ear making him angry and remember to play for the Phils, not himself.
I can imagine a lot of players getting upset that they don't get the extra $3 million that they so desperately want (and need according to some people in the past like Terrell Owens), and I really hope that Ryan Howard is not one of those guys. I understand that Howard has arguably been top 3 at his position for a couple of years now and if he had more service time under his belt, there is no doubt in my mind that he would command $10 million per season. The fact that last year he made $900,000 (way underpaid in actuality) was still a milestone in salary terms. If he makes even $7 million he will blow another number out of the water. I cannot imagine Howard being a little bitch over $3 million, but you never know...
I understand why Howard wants the money, dude has power out the butthole. However, like GreggyD mentioned, the contracts the Phils are renewing him to are still at the very high end comparable to players in the past with arbitration eligibility. I don't want Howard pissed off, but at the same time I'm not sure if throwing down a huge contract is the best idea. If it were only for 5 years, essentially buying out 1 year of free agency, then cool...but any more than that is a risk with a player of Howard's size. That's not to say he won't be very productive into his mid to late 30's, but that would be more of a liklihood should he become a DH and get rest ala David Ortiz or Frank Thomas.
Tyler Florence- isn't that some cook on the Food Network? Anyway, I don't have a problem with you either, in fact I'm glad Phillies fans hate the Mets and vice-versa...that's what a good rivalry is all about.
oh gosh! don't tell david bell....or ty flo. i dont really have a problem with someone hating the phillies (we boo our own players, afterall), but that's no excuse for liking the mets.
I can just feel the love. Now to find some Mets blog and post I hate the Mets! Actually I never really cared to do such a thing for it is just so loserish to even bother.

Happy B-Day to Carlos "Chooch" Ruiz, he turns 29 today. So if you happen to be chillin' in Panama and see Chooch, wish him a happy day.
Carson,
I don't have a problem with you, I just absolutely hate the Phillies.

It's time we leave David Bell alone, seriously the man deserves our respect. What did he do to any of us anyway?

Ok, screw that and screw that feather-haired fairy David Bell!
Thank Utley I scrolled down... I almost lost all respect for GM Carson...
I'm going in with the same mindset as last season ... wait and see approach.
He got Jim Thome to sign, which got us Rowand for last year.
So David Bell is just two degrees of separation from the 2007 NL Championship.
Plus Model Dictator, and the 34th and 47th picks in the up coming 2008 MLB Draft.
Thanks David Bell, you butt munch.
I can just feel the love.

Muck the fets.
Phils in '08!
Posting- "I hate the Mets" any where feels so good though.
That's just rude. But, appropriate.
