Oh, Lenny!

If you're a Phillies fan, then it normally goes without saying that you're a Lenny Dykstra fan. Since retiring from baseball in 1996, Dykstra hadn't really been heard from except for the random chewing tobacco usage reference of MLB players or a '93 team reminiscing. However, it seems that Mr. Leonard Dyksta has been a busy man lately. Just last Thursday Dykstra, or otherwise known as "Nails" or "Dude" was listed in the Mitchell Report...no surprise there. He isn't allowing a little bad press to get in his way of making cash post-baseball though. Lenny is set to help launch the new magazine aptly titled The Players Club. He and some other famous athletes (ex-MLB pitcher Ron Darling, ex-NHL star Wayne Gretzky, and ex-NFL wideout Tim Brown) have supplied money to venture this magazine, with the concept being a piece of literature to assist money making athletes invest and spend their earnings wisely. Take the advice from Lenny, as Dude has multiple lucrative car washes over in Jersey...gotta wash that sewage from NJ off your whip some way.

If we trade for Crede or Inge and sign Jenkins, we will have one platoon not two to burn up our bench. A solid balanced bench makes for a championship team.

As any successful Strat-o-Matic league owner/manager will tell you is that a perfect bench is made up of. Two Lefties, two Righties, and a Switch hitter. Ideally one of the Lefties and one of the Righties have high on base to lead off an inning, and one of the Lefties and one of the Righties has Extra-Base Hits and Homerun Power to knock them in.

If we trade for Crede and sign Jenkins, we will have a perfectly balanced bench.

L high on base OF - Chris Snelling
R high on base UIF- Eric Bruntlett
L power IF - Greg Dobbs
R power OF - Jayson Werth
S C - Jason Jaramillo

Really nice balance. Jaramillo actually is reported to have some pop from the Left Side.

Chris Snelling could instead be - Nate McLouth, Bobby Kielty, or Chris Roberson (who can steal and replace Burrell exactly the way Bourne did last year). R Chris Coste or L Pete LaForest could be the back-up Catcher instead of Jaramillo.

Let's look at the bench IF we do not trade for Crede or Inge.

L high on base OF - Chris Snelling
R high on base UIF- Eric Bruntlett
R power OF - Jayson Werth
R some power IF - Wes Helms
S C - Jason Jaramillo

The perfect balance is gone. If Coste is the back-up catcher there will be 4 righties, and even if Jaramillo is the back-up it will be hard to burn him pinchhitting in case Ruiz is injured.

So! Let's get on it. Two platoons is one too many if we want to have a terrific bench.

SirAlden- I wholeheartedly agree that there shouldn't be a platoon at 3rd base next season...I want a full time player there pronto!

I read an unlikely rumor that Patty G is working on getting Adrian Beltre in Phils pinstripes...that would rock!

610 WIP and ESPN Radio report that the Phillies could be close to a deal with Seattle. Should this be any surprise since the Phils GM is Gillick? The Phils are willing to take on a large portion of Adrian Beltre's contract. The deal would presumably send Adam Eaton along with Pitching Prospect Carlos Carrasco over to the Mariners for Beltre and Horacio Ramirez. Who knows how official or close this is because other reports have the Phillies also close to acquiring guys like Javier Vasquez, Mike MacDougal, and Joe Crede from the White Sox.

Could be a 3 way trade, the Phillies strength due to Gillick's adult stewardship, is the ability to take on huge salary dumps.

Great Rumors.

I have loved Adrian Beltre "love you love you long time", after Zimmerman there is no 3B man who I think would thrive more than Adrian in the CIT.

Two more years on the contract at 12-13 million. Then negotiating with Boras. Would be an excellent use of the 12-13 instead of 12-13 to Rowand for a Right Handed Batter to bat 4th or 5th.

Adrian Beltre is the same age range as Rollins, Utley, and Howard. Born in 1979.

Adrian Beltre Won the Glove Glove for 3B in the AL in 2007.

He had a PMR Probabilistic Model of Range of 104.66, Inge 105, Crede 110.

All good options.

why would Seattle do this deal?

They want out of the Beltre contract for a few years now. At one point there was talk of a Burrell for Beltre trade. It does make sense. Eaton would likely have a rebound especially in Seattle's park. Actually Eaton would be hard pressed to do worse than last years performance.

GM-Carson said...

This trade is pure speculation, and isn't going to happen, but I do know that Seattle is desperately seeking 2 starting pitchers and is not counting Horacio Ramirez as 1 of them, so eventhough Eaton sucks that part makes some sense.

SirAlden said...

If Eaton sucks, because his shoulder would not let him dig in on his breaking stuff, take a look at Horacio Ramirez. Boy his stats are awful!

Maybe Eaton has a chance of his shoulder healing.

And yes. The Phillies are one of the few teams who now have huge payroll flex. That is why I was dreaming of a Beckett like deal, say for Bedard taking on Mora's huge worthless contract. But after Eddie Wade gave the O's lots of stuff for Miguel Tejada they will be making the best deal for Bedard, and they do not have the $$$ presure now that Tejada is off the books.

woah woah woah....easy on the Jersey-bashing there Carson

GM-Carson said...

Skeeter- c'mon, Jersey is an easy target. Besides my "bashing" was mild, as I referred to the general atmosphere at "sewage", I could have made it much worse.

Jacobin said...

Yeah, he didn't even say anything about Jersey girls. Like, what's the difference between Jersey girls and trash?

...trash gets picked up at least once a week.

Skeeter said...

ouch...well I bet you bastards have used our beaches just about every summer. And you probably treat it like shit and leave your trash everywhere. Go pump your own gas, I'll sit in my warm car...

...you people make me sick

And for the record: the Statue of Liberty is technically in NJ, not NY. Go fornicate yourself Mets' and Yankees' fans.

i've noticed a precipitous and rather astounding increase in both the frequency and length of siralden's postings on this site in the last year. i'm suspicious that he may be using blogging-enhancing substances or HBH (human bullshiting hormone). i've contacted both mitchell and the commissioner's office.

Benjah- that "HBH" comment made me spit a little coffee out this morning. And the Jersey joking is all in good fun...at least that's the way it's intended.
