I'm Gonna Get You Sucka!

Lets just pretend the Phils have enough offense that they will be able to overcome the shackles of their horrific pitching staff and play their butts off through these last 20 games to obtain the NL Wild Card. Seems like every team in the NL West is in contention for the highly sought after Wild Card, as the division is still up for grabs with the Diamondbacks in the lead, with the Padres, Dodgers, and the incoming Rockies nipping at their heels. Hopefully they beat up on each other until the end of the season and the Phils can take care of business (not that they have before) and slip right into the final playoff slot.

First order of business- taking care of the Colorado Rockies. Believe it or not the Rockies are pretty good this season with an almost identical 74-68 record to us. They can not be taken lightly as they have some heavy hitters and their pitching staff is actually superior to ours (of course, so is any college's staff). I'm not confident about this series or the remaining season, but hey, they're still in it!

Gotta admire the tenacity of the Phillies so far. They have battled on to stay in touch. It seems we are all a bit wary about getting excited. Just like the game itself its a day to day proposition. We all want the wild card but aren't prepared to believe it can happen just yet. We are in too deep and it hurts hard when they fall. Maybe experience will help them go one further this year.

Keep on Phightin' Phils. We are with you all the way.

This team needs to go 15-5 over the last 20 games to get to 90 wins, which I believe would get them into the post season. I don't think it's likely that they win that many. If they go 13-7, they hit 88 wins and have a chance at the playoffs. Unfortunately, I think it's more likely they go 11-9 to win 86 games yet again.

All prognostication aside, this week's four-game series against Colorado and the three games at Shea-it Stadium against the queens from Queens should let us know where the Phils will be at the end of the season. Yes, I'm suggesting that unless they go on a tear this week, we can expect them to finish just out of the money for another straight year.

Oh, now I see the Pirates may be interested in Rube Amaro Jr. for their vacant GM position. If they want to make him a front office Phucco, all the power to them... I just think Rube isn't going to do anything to keep that franchise from setting the record for consecutive losing seasons.

The Pirates seem to pay just enough to keep average players on it. But if they want to make a move they should do so very soon. They have a stable full of good pitching almost ready for the majors or in the majors now. They add some offense they can have a winning season in a winnable division. They could take that division with some upgrades this offseason. A Phucco GM????

Jacobin, good breakdown of wins needed. 11-9 is likely, but they do need to aim for a 13-7 record at the minimum. 20-0 would be nice.

20-0 may mean division winners

13-7 88 Wins and the Good Ship PHILLES sail into the playoffs.

SirAlden- you're always so upbeat, I'm sure Benjah would love to toke on some of that shit you be smokin'!

I still remember foolishly predicting 92 wins for this team...oh such the idiot I can be.

The Pirates have some good players, they just don't play well together as a team and fall apart at the wrong times. They need 1 or 2 more consistent offensive pieces plus a reliable bullpen and they'd easily contend.

The Phillies could be 1.5 out by tonight, but they will need some kind of hot streak if they are to end up winning the NL stumblebum sweepstakes. 3-1 vs the Rox is almost a must-do proposition. My concern is that after the Eagles disgraceful loss, the folks in Philly who gave up after the Braves series might actually give the Phils another look-see, and it seems to me the Phillies play better when they are under the radar and folks arent paying attention.

I was reading some speculation about Dontrelle Willis could be traded to Philly this offseason. Now such a trade is purely speculation and somewhat unlikely within the same division. But I see the Phils doing more to add pitching thru trades this year rather than signing what is going to be a weak free agent pitching class. Such a trade may cost 2 top prospects and maybe Bourn or Victorino but the Phils do have some tradeable players in the outfield. If they sign Rowand then a trade is likely and for pitching will be the aim. Now I see relievers being needed most, but depending if they wise up or not with Myers being a starter or a closer that will dictate if they trade for relievers or starters.

Google it MP3 it, I was one of those "I never inhaled" like Wild Bill Clinton.

Question while we are in the subject of Wild Bill. If you were President would you do Monica Lewinski? Or hold out for some smokin' tail? I am still shaking my head on that one...

Monica Lewinski??????!

I am going to kill myself and take Mesa out with me. WHAT THE HELL IS HE DOING ON THIS TEAM!!! After 2003 if anybody suggested that Mesa was going to rejoin the Phillies a few years later and help kill another season, you would thought it ludicrous. Eff Pat Gillick and Eff Manuel for bringing Mesa into a game that was still in hand.

Pat Burrell.....oh yeah!!

Smokin'

Oh man, that may go down as a season saving jack. The Phils have to take 3
of 4 and you just cant be dropping the opening game.

Myers had an inning ending strikeout there. Bad call umpire.

Nice! Howard drops one into the LF corner and Utz comes around with the winning run. Huge, huge win. DFA Msa NOW

Top win Phils. Lohse kept us in it and the bullpen pitched well for the killer offense to take it.

Phils needed that one.

Charlie Manuel is the biggest idiot alive. The team's within one run so let's bring in Jose Mesa...brilliant move. Definitely glad we got the win.

Pat Burrell ties that game with a clutch home run... wow, where the hell was he down the stretch last year?! It's a nice win, but it's only the first game of the series. If this team wants to make a move, it has to be made this week. First the Rockies and then the Mets.

The only thing we can do is win, and pray everyone else implodes.

I know our bullpen sucks, but it does not suck enough and never will suck enough that Jose F'n Mesa should have a home in it. He is lousy and I hate him. I hate him from all those blown saves in '03, and I hate him for the past 2 months of slop he's offered up here.

Pat Burrell is the friggin' man!
