The Phillies usually only get national attention for losing (i.e. 1st sports franchise to 10,000 losses), but the place they play at is getting exposure for winning. The Brick Cit House has won P.E.T.A.'s "Most Vegetarian-Friendly Ballpark in North America". Here's the reason Citizens Bank Park was deemed worthy of such honor, "Animal-friendly baseball fans can eat themselves silly in the City of Brotherly Love, enjoying the league's best selection of mock meats. A vegan hot dog and flame-grilled Gardenburger were added in past seasons, and now Citizens Bank Park is offering a genuine Philly mock-steak sandwich that's getting rave reviews for its great taste, and it has none of the cholesterol of "the original" to boot!"
This is fresh off the heels of winning the Food Network's "2007 Best Ballpark Eats Award." To be honest, I had no idea, nor did I care, that the Cit was veggie friendly, unless you consider Chickie'n'Pete's crab fries of that nature. Anyway, I'm a bit concerned with this "mock meat" they speak of. I've had scrapple, some scary hot dogs, and imitation crab meat in my life so I know what can fall under the realm of meat, but what in the world is "mock meat"? I don't know about the rest of you, but I don't care to find out.
Phillies Crime Crew:
Former Phillies keep making the news for criminal acts, this time it was Jose Offerman. Another former Phillie was involved in the altercation- Matt Beech. During an Independent League game Beech of Bridgeport hit Offerman of Long Island with a pitch and Jose charged the mound with bat in hand and decided to hit Beech since he didn't get the opportunity to hit the ball. Offerman was arrested, as he smacked Beech in the hands and also struck a blow to the head of the catcher...freakin' idiot! It's good to see Jose can still hit something though, because he didn't hit crap for the Phils in '05.
*Thank you Russell Branyan. The Phils offense was asleep all night, and was wasting a nicely pitched game by Kyle Lohse and crew, until the the newest Phillie came to the plate in the 8th as a pinch-hitter and went rock-em-sock-em on a John Rauch pitch for a 2-run lead-taking bomb.
*I know I shouldn't praise players on this blog, because it always seems to back fire, but I do want to say the bullpen is much improved lately. 6-Finger-Ant has done a decent job all season, JC Romero has slotted into the left-handed reliever role well, Jose Mesa has been a big surprise, Tom Gordon is looking better, and Brett Myers is filthy in the 9th.
*The only thing more disgusting than Tony Bautista's batting stance is the fact that he only has 2 extra-base hits on the season, both doubles coming at the hands of Phillies pitchers...c'mon now!
