10 Spot: Part 2

Nearly a month ago I trashed the Phillies pitching staff for being, well...trash. I was not incorrect in my assessment of the severity of the situation as the team era is every bit as crappy then as it is now; plus we currently employ human run factory J.D. Durbin as our 5th starter, so things don't look to get better. My original post was titled 10 Spot in regards to the Phils propensity to surrender outrageous amounts of runs to the opposition. At the time of the post, our pitching woes had amassed 9 games of 10+ runs given up, all leading to losses, but amazingly haven't given up that dubious mark since then, although they've still sucked immensely. By the way, our pitching is the worst in the NL.

To counterbalance our horrific pitching staff, we possess the NL's most prolific offense...end result equaling 2 games above .500 (46-44). Today's 10 Spot is focusing on the offense's ability to post double digit runs on the scoreboard. Although we haven't overcome the nasty 9 games mentioned above, the Phils have scorched the opponent 6 times for 10+ runs, twice consecutively coming the past 2 days...here's hoping for a 3rd day in a row today.

The Good 10 Spot:
*April 23 vs. Astros win 11-4
*May 12 vs. Cubs win 11-7
*May 27 vs. Braves win 13-6
*June 26 vs. Reds win 11-4
*July 13 vs. Cardinals win 13-3
*July 14 vs. Cardinals win 10-4

Roster Move:
Jars of Clay Condrey is back in the hiz-zouse! Patty G decided Condrey was far too valuable to have sitting in Ottawa, so he called him back up for the 17th time this season while optioning Anderson Garcia back down. Condrey's MLB era this year is 7.36 compared to Garcia's 13.50, I can see the obvious improvement...genius this Gillick man is.

Tonight's Game:
Two days in a row of national tv coverage. Yesterday the Phils dominated St. Louis on Fox and today they get the ESPN Sunday Night Game stage. Hopefully Peter Gammons stirs up some crazy rumor about the Phils trading for Johan Santana or Alex Rodriguez or whips out his guitar and does a punk rendition of Philadelphia Freedom by Elton John.

the phils have about as much of a chance of getting alex rodriguez as peter gammons does having a brain aneurysm...

speaking of gammons, i like the stevie ray vaugh signature strat he's rocking in that pic.

i have a feeling gavin eaton wants to lose number 10K...

I think the Phils win tonight with a feel-good sweep of the defending World Series champs following the All-Streak, further prolonging the soon to be 10,000th loss in franchise history. Eaton Beaver is not "going down" tonight, rather, he'll "stick it" to the Cards.

If only we could throw out Hamels and Kendrick (can't believe I'm saying that one) every day. We have to hold our breath through Eaton and Moyer, and then throw every fifth game away.

C'mon Los, you don't think J.D. Durbin has "future ace" written all over him?

Future Ace - maybe on his underroos

Gavin Eaton may just let up the 10K loss, but not till his next turn when they are tied for first

I'd rather just get loss 10,000 over with. I have loved the past two games but am so damn tired of hearing the 10k news stories on every sports broadcast that is on TV and every headline on the internet. Plus, I'd rather them get it at home so the fans can show how much loss number 10,000 doesn't matter to us. At least that is the general feeling I am getting from most people, whether it be friends, commenters, or anyone else that's a Phillies fan.

It makes me laugh to look at statistics and see that our offense is top 10, almost top 5 in every major batting statistic while the pitching is bottom 10 in every category. Pretty sad.

A-Rod or Johan Santana in Phillies pinstripes? God, I wish. Can you imagine this ownership giving Pat Gillick the go ahead on spending $30 million per season on him haha. Oh that cracks me up. It would truly be a Miracle on Pattison Ave.

I know we need a starting pitcher for Tuesday, but it looks like we could use one tonight too...

Jim Wolf is being an asshole tonight. Is he pissed his brother didn't get a big contract to stay with the Phils? It would be nice to know why there are different strike zones for Philadelphia and St. Louis pitchers tonight!

yeah, he's being real liberal with the "backdoor breaking ball" for wainright

and another hit for burrell, what the hell is he doing that for?

Which number will be higher at the end of the season... Adam Eaton's ERA or his win total?

10,000 losses. It was inevitable. Taking two out of three to open after the break is nice, but it's a tough west coast road trip coming up. I'm thinking Ryan Howard would have had a better showing at the home run derby if he had Brian Sanches pitching to him.

Glad 10,000 is done with now. It was becoming an unnecessary distraction. 2 out of 3 was definitely nice to see to start the second half. I'm surprised it took Albert Pujols this long to get it going, but not surprised that it happened against the Phillies.

This road trip will be tough, but it will be a test for the team. As long as they can keep winning series I will be happy.

I'm going to be a Negative Nancy and predict at most 2 wins in the West Coast 7 game trip. I still don't feel good about this team. They have offense, but the pitching is as bad as I can ever remember.

10,000 losses...who gives a shit. The franchise has been around since 1883 for crying out loud.

By the way, Eaton sucks donkey dong!
