Back to...

Back to life, back to reality. Back to life, back to the present time. Back from a fantasy, yeah. (Back to Life by Soul II Soul)

Reality Bites! 3 game sweep of Braves over. Dominant offense vanished, as situational hitting rears is ugly head yet again. Phils ego-trip squashed. Relentless booing of Rod Barajas begins. Freddy Garcia finally pitches well and we still don't win. Ryan Madson shows his true form? Ryan Howard is swatting with authority. Greg Dobbs is on fire. Abe Nunez hits weak ground balls. Pat Burrell only walks. Chase Utley can't hit the slow hook from a lefty. Our bullpen is shaky.

What is the Phils reality? Their reality is blurred. This team is still mediocre record-wise, but has been playing exceedingly better since the first 3 weeks of the season. Things seems to be improving. The rotation has been pleasantly solid. The offense looks more formidable with the insertion of Howard. The bench is playing well (Werth, Bourn, Dobbs). Even the bullpen stands to get better when Myers and Gordon return. So, even though last night was a loss, I'm actually not mad. They almost fought back and won the game, showing some gumption. Garcia's performance was yet another strong outing from a Phillies starting pitcher. If he continues to pitch like that, he'll get some wins. 3 big spots in the game: 1) Utley striking out with Rollins on 3rd with 1 out in the 1st inning. 2) Garcia grounding into an inning ending double play with the bases loaded. 3) Madson giving up the two costly insurance runs in the 9th. I'm staying positive though, as it was only one game. Phils can still take the next 2 from Arizona and make the series a success.

We would have won last nights game if Bourne had been running the bases better in the ninth. On Ruis' hit and TWO outs - Bourne turned second and stopped to look where the ball was. He made it to 3rd but easily could have scored to tie the game.

I was there last night. Unreal. Rod Barajas had a chance to semi-redeem himself in Philly.

In the words of Bobby D:

"You blew it!"

The biggest positive I see is that Bobby Abreu is doing his best to bring the Yankees down and is no longer killing the Phils.

That Rod Barajas at bat was very interesting. First the fans booed the hell out of him when he ran in from the bullpen because he was the last bench player available. Then when he came to bat the crowd actually cheered him on to be ultimately disappointed yet again by the fat-ass. If he would have won that game though, that would have been big time redemption. All wouldn't be forgiven, but some would be forgotten.

From FoxSports- Now in his seventh full season with the Phillies, Jimmy Rollins has never played fewer than 154 games. He has appeared in 158 three times, including each of the last two seasons. The 28-year-old Rollins says he's feeling fine. He credits the weather. "Had it been hotter at the start of the season, maybe I would have felt a little more tired, but fortunately the weather has been pretty cool, and I have been there every day," Rollins said. Rollins, centerfielder Aaron Rowand and second baseman Chase Utley have played in all 51 games this year. What about playing all 162 games? "Would I want to go 162? I don't have a problem with it," Rollins said. "I expect to play every day. The day I come in and my name isn't on the lineup is actually shocking."

Victorino hula figurine to be given out next week, I think June 4th. I imagine the game will be attended by every WSBGMS bloggers that lives in the US with someone swipping an extra one for our friends down under.

If one of you get an extra Victorino Hula Figurine, you better be hooking up your favorite blogger (that being me of course) up with one of them, because I want one!

Hey I agree with your optimism. Things aren't looking so bad right now. Also I've added a link to you guys onto my site whizwith.blogspot.com.

Dante- thanks for the link. WSBGM's is becoming a link whore. I'm alright with that though, the more exposure to our maddness the better.

I really am optimistic about tonight. I'm feeling a Micah Owings thrashing coming on.

How do you guys plan to get these Victorino Hop Devil hula figurines? Walk into the stadium with your knees in your shoes like Dorf on Golf? Beat up a 10-year-old?

I'm not just saying this because I write for Ladies... and I think he's super cute, but Greg Dobbs = stud. He gives such a lift to the offense, and he's a superior third baseman to big dumb Wes Helms.

so the chicks dig gregg dobbs....o k

and why is tim lincecum getting all this pub? the phils spanked him.....and his name has cum in it!

GM-Carson said...

Tim LinceCUM is getting all this pub, because it's not everyday a mentally challenged individual makess it in professional sports.

Greg Dobbs is my twin, therefore I'm a stud too!

Lieber getting battered around in the 2nd, not looking good. Phils waste leadoff double by Jimmy...and there back to the usual.

GM-Carson said...

Lieber looks like shit! 7 hits and 5 runs given up in the 2nd inning. All that optimism I had...buh-bye!

I had to listen to the second inning for my entire drive from Philly to Berks County. It really made me disgusted. But the worst thing I heard today was Burger King reporting that the Phillies ownership has already decided they will not increase payroll no matter how close the team might be to making a playoff move, and that the Manuel hiring was in place when they brought Thome in as a free agent (meaning Bowa was a lame duck for this fuctardo manager we have now).

I hate the ownership junta that controls this team. Only limited partnership of its type in MLB and you can see how well it works.

Jacobin said...

Well, five unearned runs in the eighth certainly put that one out of reach... now we're back to .500 and it really doesn't feel like the team is going to wind up being much better than that by the end of the season.

Is it too early to start calling for Rowand batting #2 and Shane-O to be down at 6-7? Or does that have to wait until after that gay bobblehead giveaway?

and did anybody else see the shout-out for my man Davey Johnson here:

Before the season started, I thought the lineup should have Rollins leading off and then Victorino. After about 50 games, it's obvious Vic needs dropped in the lineup and Rowand bumped to the 2 hole. That wouldn't of made a hill of beans last night though as the defense let us down, and Lieber's 5-run 2nd innings wasn't too great either.
