Phight For Your Right

The 1993 Phillies were known for their rowdy habits that were usually brought on by some mix of alcohol, tobacco, and girls...in other words partying. I want to see a return to dominance and what better way then having a team full of players that like to let it all hang loose. So in honor of that beer swilling, Skoal dipping, lady loving '93 Phils squad and the new school playas on the team today, I bring to you the WSBGM's remix of the Beastie Boys Fight For Your Right.

Phight For Your Right:
Kick It!

You wake up late for practice man you don't wanna go,
You beg the trainer please but he still says NO!
You miss two cage sessions and posing for a card,
but Manuel coaches the team like you're kinda some tard.

You gotta phight, for your right,
to party!

Patty G caught you smokin', man he said "NO WAY!"
That hypocrite smokes two packs a day!
Man playing at home is such a drag,
now the home team fans just called me a fag. (Busted)

You gotta phight, for your right,
to party

You gotta phight...

Get outta this club house if that's the uniform you're gonna wear,
I'll kick you offa my team if you don't CUT THAT HAIR!!
Manuel busted in and said WHAT'S THAT NOISE!?!?
Aww, Charlie you're just jealous it's the PHILLY PARTY BOYS!!!

You gotta phight, for your right,
to party!

Rumors- Lieber to Brewers for some combo of Kevin Mench/Geoff Jenkins and Jose Capellan/Derrick Turnbow.

Aaron Rowand in some kind of package to the White Sox for Garcia, Vazquez, or Buerhle.

Bring in Garcia/Vazquez/Buerhle in place of Lieber is an improvement. Mench and Rowand can each be good/bad at times so they're a wash. Basically, these moves would be good for the Phils. It also improves the bullpen. Keeping Burrell is good in my opinion too.

Octavio Dotel was offered a contract. He's a wild card, if he's healthy then we have a hot-shot set-up man, but health is a HUGE concern with him.

If we needed an extra outfielder these names were brought up- Rondell White, Preston Wilson and Steve Finley...yuck!

Also just read a Gavin Floyd for Ryan Church swap...do it!

ESPN made mention if Vernon Wells is traded that the Phils will be bidders...what the hell can we offer for him?

The Lieber trade sucks - Mench hasn't lived up to his hype, Jenkins is another Pat the Bat strike-out machine, Turnbow is damaged goods, and Capellan sounds to much like Capellini.

Rowland for Garcia, Vazquez, or Buerhle is great, but makes no sense for the Sox.

Dotel is a great pitcher when healthy like you mentioned...but still very risky.

White, Wilson, and Finley...wow, how about bringing Ricky Ledee back? He hustles, won't hurt you in the line-up, and plays great D.

The Ryan Church swap would be great, but again, I don't see why the other side would do it.

I agree with you about Vern, unless we put a Beltran outfit on Burrell and fool them, there's really not much we can send their way.

GM-Carson said...

If we traded for Mench we could always blog about his huge head...biggest in MLB.

Texas has talked with Philadelphia about a trade that would send right-handed reliever Akinori Otsuka to the Phillies for outfielder Aaron Rowand and right-hander Gavin Floyd. I'd like Otsuka but at the price of Rowand?

Sounds like the Phils offerened Rod Barajas a contract...I just don't understand why.

First things first...hilarious post. Is Geary at that "point of no return" in that last picture. Thats the only excuse for that face.

About the trades. I would take a pack of big league chew (which is the best gum ever) for gavin floyd at this point. And the lieber for just about anyone trade is fine with me because that deal is only happening if we already have a better pitcher. Also with mench...u have a number of fan groups that im sure could pop up. But lieber is a year old and fatter...any white sox starter is an instant improvement for us.

Also...vernon wells playing in Philly would give me that Geary face.

GM-Carson said...

That "Geary face" is funny as hell! It' a face that one makes when the think "holy shit, how the hell am I pulling hot ass when I'm such an unbelievable nerd/dork/geek"...that's Geary for sure.

Floyd sucks, I don't know how else to put it. By the way...Big League Chew rocks, especially the grape flavor.

if grape big league chew was served at fine restaurants, i would order it with a tenacity unforeseen by mankind

HAHAHAHA
Thats it. I think I may just have to make my post tonight be about big league chew...grape flavored of course. They now make sour apple which I havent tried but I'm almost 100% positive the guys that make BLC could not screw it up.

Also...lieby is officially a dodger. Gone the way of the wolf.

I'm in a rockin' good mood right now. I listened to Beatie Boys on the ride home, now I've got Helmet blaring in the background...just seems like a good day. I've got Big League Chew on the mind and Phillies in my heart...kick ass!

Alright enough gayity, time for the facts- Gillick needs to get us bullpen help and sort this entire "I'm trading, I'm not trading" shit out...c'mon Patty G!

~Carson

P.S. I'm very glad Lieby is gone!!!

Looks like Gillick is going for a RF platoon. Checking splits, Mench/Church works.

That photo of Ryan Howard is a beauty. He's off his chops! Love it.

As long as we continue to let Burrell party and not worry about frivelous things like improving his batting, we'll be fine ...

BloodStripes said...

Here's a deal. I'll send y'all some VB and you can send me some big league chew.

BloodStripes said...

Burrell must have missed out on plenty of muff last year, thus his high strikeout count on the field. His success hinges on pulling sheilas from the pub. Lets hope he gets his pull power back in '07, both on and off the field.

NO MORE FLYOD!!

Woah, am I gonna be the one to break the big deal?

To CHX:
Gavin Floyd
Gio Gonzalez

To PHI:
Freddy Garcia

Terrific move by Gillick! Garcia is a HUGE improvement over Lieber, especially in a new league, and slots right in at #3 to give the Phils perhaps the deepest rotation this side of LA.

Gillick and Kenny Williams obviously knew what they were each shopping for, Gio obviously was born and raised by the ChiSox and Gillick traded Randy Johnson to get Garcia 8 years ago.

The next move? MLB.com reports the Phils are now shopping Lieber to the Cards, Brewers, and Texas. The deal I'd make would be to send Rowand and Lieber to the Rangers and pick up Wilkerson (and possibly Otsuka, where did you see that Carson?). Our rotation looks MUCH better with Garcia and Eaton over Lieber and Floyd, the Rangers are looking for warm bodies in the rotation which Lieber definitely is, and what better way to replace Gary Matthews's fence-scaling than with Aaron Rowand's fence-slamming?? The Rangers even need a 2B too, can we send them Sandoval and/or that Austrailian dude?? ;)

BloodStripes said...

I'm sticking with my no-trade clause. Its Philly only for me mate. You are stuck with me.

Top news! Garcia is a great pick-up. No more Floyd troubles and we still have a few pitching prospects. Good deal Gillick. Now we can get on trading the donut eater for a couple of relievers and keep the outfield as is.

GM-Carson said...

Holy shit! I had no idea this deal went down until 6 am Thursday morning. Talk about a good start to the work day. Freddy Garcia is a solid pitcher and will done a fine job in our rotation. We got rid of Floyd! Gonzalez is a prospect, he could end up being Johan Santana or Julio Santana, I'm glad to give him up for an established MLB starting pitcher. I can't believe Rowand wasn't part of the deal. That means Gillick probably has more tricks up his sleeve now, because we have Lieber to deal and he should net us something of worth...I'm in a good mood baby!

BloodStripes said...

Woo hoo, bloody good news eh? The Phils are looking good! We are gettin' solid all-round. A couple of good bullpen arms and we are set.

GM-Carson said...

Freddy Garcia is a solid pitcher. His 4.54 ERA isn't great, but his 1.28 WHIP is nice...and that came in the hitter friendly AL. I like this deal a lot! Not to mention he looks like the Rock.

GM-Carson said...

rumor- swapping ryan's, church for madson...do it! we can trade rowand and lieber for solid bullpen arms then.

~Carson

BloodStripes said...

I read on Phillies.com that "A deal with Washington for Church can't happen now that the Nationals asked Gonzalez". Is this Ryan swap a new rumor? If not keeping Madson would'nt be such a bad thing. He has some quality left in him. He had some bad outings last season but also had some very good ones. Just needs some consistency.

GM-Carson said...

I actually dislike Madson, but he does have the ability to turn it around. But I would do a Church for Madson swap.
