Spring Training- 77 days away, a.k.a. way too fricken long! I'm floundering here waiting for any Phillies related news, so much so that I even got excited about some measly minor league signings (Lou Collier and Brent Abernathy...yahoo!). I could post today on the need for bullpen help, but that's been done. I could ponder Pat Burrell projections for next season batting behind Ryan Howard, but that'll get Los in a tizzy. I could make fun on Charlie Manuel and David Bell, but I need to mature. Instead I will focus today's effort on what the Phils will be doing to the competition next season in 2007- pooping all over them!
The picture of Mike Lieberthal squatting over top of a National's player about to drop a Cleveland Steamer all over him is precisely what the Phils are going to do to the rest of the league. The rotation is better, the offense led the league last season and has slightly improved with the add-on of Helms, and the bench and bullpen are still being built. It's a sure thing, the Phils are going to the playoffs next season. And don't going raining on my parade today, because for just one f'n day I would like to picture the Phils on top of the baseball world.
About the maturing part above, and not making fun of Manuel or Bell...well screw that! This dog is leaving them a nice little present. Oh, I'm so juvenile.~Carson

And best of all Happy Birthday Cole Hammels and Michael Bourn.
I hear rumblings of a Beltre for Moyer trade??? sounds a little far fetched at this time. Most likely just a mere rumor - need relievers now.
beltre for moyer? wow, i would be amazed if that actually happened. I found the most incredible website today about poop.
ahh now it makes sense, the mariners want to move beltre to sign zito...
they can't trade moyer for beltre, it they do, what would become of wes helms??????
corey
I'd take Beltre over Helms, I think he has more upside. But for my money, I'd rather keep Moyer. Keeping Dr. Donuts Lieber around instead of Moyer would scare me. If they open a Krispy Kreme near his house, we can kiss the first 2-3 months of the season goodbye as he gets back into playing shape (aka round, not obese).
77 days until spring training...let the official countdown begin. i would also like to join bob d in wishing cole hamels and michael bourn happy birthday. The Phillies can't trade moyer for beltre. Beltre has been a bigger disappointment than burrell. Although the Phillies have six starters, I would not trade moyer. Lieber would be the only one I would deal. thanks for the optimism today carson
My friend works first aid for the Phillies. Over the Christmas holiday, he got a call from one of the Phillies' inside people.
Look for something involving Burrell, Leiber, and Michael Bourn in the upcoming weeks.
BTW - IMN-SHO, Moyer won't go anywhere. he was brought in to school Hamels on that killer change-up they both possess.
Trekmedic215- ask your source if the deal involve A-Rod, because giving up Bourn, Lieber, and Burrell is a big package.
As far as Moyer for Beltre- Do It! There can't be any truth to the rumor though, just doesn't make sense on the M's behalf. And what to do with Wes Helms- pinch-hitter.
~Carson
"what to do with wes helms" should never be a factor in deciding anything, be it an addition or subtraction. and it sure better not involve arod, b/c that guy throats it deeper than david bell and trot nixon combined.
Benjah- take that statement back about A-Rod, he does not suck, he's awesome! I would love for him hitting 5th behind Howard...unstoppable! You just don't like him because of that god awful Yankee blood running through your system...you need a good purge.
~Carson
i wont take it back...arod sucks thpthpthpthp :-P
the only difference b/w arod and burrell is the college girls and the booze!! the only difference in their play is that one of them is a half decent 3rd baseman. given that, i'd rather save 10 million bucks a year and keep burrell....plus, the internet pics of burrell and the chicks keeps me entertained better than arod being cliche
everyone, calibrate your sarcasm meters. yesterday i said castro is more useful as a 7th starter than LH reliever and today i said "what would become of wes helms" - and i think some of you thought i might be serious. come one....
"Burrell is a big package" - carson, you are making this waaaaaay too easy for me...
benjah - a-rod is awesome. if you want to talk about pole-ride sausage-eating losers, we can do a jeter post...

Wasn't there an indoor soccer team in the old MISL days (1980's) called the Cleveland Steamers? I'm serious - for some reason, I remember this (I was one of the 5 Philadelphia Fever fans back then).
corey, you're such a dirty boy...& Carson you make it way too easy to poke fun.
Corey- I picked up on your sarcasm right away. That's why I didn't rush to defend or argue you. And stop making fun of me, I'm going to cry and tell my momma.
And for this weak A-Rod vs. Jeter debate...A-Rod is by far the superior player and Jeter sucks scrotums!
~Carson
los- Unfortunately, the MISL team named the Steamers was the St Louis team, not Cleveland.
Zito signs with the Giants. Right now the Mutts have the 4th best rotation in the NL East. Heres to hoping Texas is looking for Lieber to round out the rotation and to kindly give the Phillies Otsuka in return.
Zito signing with the Giants is great news. I was worried the Mets would get him...without him their rotation is lackluster.
With Zito and Suppan off the market, the trade interest in Lieber should increase.
I'm hoping Corey has time to drop in and do a post. If not, I will do one tomorrow morning.

i'm currently working on my new year's day post....so far so good...but i'll bang out a post tonight, i have a rant to get off my chest.
corey
Corey- I'm leaving the blog open today (Friday) for you bro. I'm really looking forward to your New Year's post- it'll be a doozy. By the way, just wanted to use the word doozy.
I was listening to the MLB stations on my XM radio yesterday and they had hilights of the season and the one hilight was when Ryan Howard hit a pinch-hit homerun in Cincy...awesome!
~Carson
The day after he was sick and he hit 2 HR's to win the game. Hopefully more good times to come.
