Phillies Phlashback Phridays: WSBGM's

The evolution of We Should Be GM's-

Our 1st ever post on the blog (3/28/06):

Welcome to PA Baseball, a blog covering the Phillies & Pirates baseball. Our goal is to rant and vent and tell the Phils and Buccos management what they should do, because we know at least as much as Ed Wade or Cam Bonifay.
Our first order of business, find Steve Jeltz, and sign him up.
Later - Corey & Carson

Things have progressed well since that day back in March before the season ever started. Corey and I began blogging to nobody but ourselves, it was for our own amusement. Slowly we began to build a community and a nucleus of loyal readers. I have no idea how many people frequent the site now, but I do give a shout out to those who do. I love doing this site, it's fun for me. Basically I type a blog, read it, and if it makes me laugh while also provoking actual thoughts, then I post it. Corey and I have always pushed the envelope in terms of decency and will continue to do so, because that's what sets our blog apart from others.

WSBGM's for the most part exclusively focuses on Phillies baseball now with random Pirates tidbits. We still feel we should be the general managers and will continue to look through the scrap heaps for the sensational relics like our boy Steve Jeltz. We love doing- Phillies Phlashback Phridays, Saturday Polls, making funny of our retarded manager, forcing David Bell to come out of the closet, relentlessly beating Gavin Floyd up verbally, taking jabs at Abreu's "hustle", and many other things. We love talking Phillies baseball and making ourselves and others laugh!

I know today's offering wasn't all that funny, but I needed to do this for myself, and don't worry I'll continuing blogging with that same enthusiasm and fiery wit I've always have.

Phillies rumors:

1. Soriano top target
2. A-Ram, they have expressed interest so my man-love for him can still hold on.
3. Carlos Lee has entered the picture.
4. Trade for Gary Sheffield.
5. Relief pitchers- Joe Borowski and Dannys Baez
6. That Japanese 3rd baseman
7. Miguel Batista
8. Trying to keep Randy Wolf

*Those names for the most part are good names. Which gives me hope.

Yet another rumor-

Pat Burrell for Armando Benitez. I don't like it, but heard it might be a straight up now money exchanged deal.

Also- the Sheffield trade would involve some mix of Floyd, Madson, or Lieber. I say keep Lieber...good-fricken-bye Madson and Floyd.

Wow, I'm commenting with myself this morning, how utterly pathetic.

Anyway, more rumors I've found-

1. Mark DeRosa- UPENN grad
2. Otis Nixon...just kidding, Trot Nixon
3. Jesse Orosoco- he wants to come back and be the Phils left-handed specialist for a reasonable 1 year 4.5 million dollar contract with an option year at 11.5 mil or 3.75 buyout...do it!

There you go again, blogging to yourself. LOL

All of these rumors just make your head spin. It won't be until next week when we might hear things are starting to happen. I feel Gillick is letting some of these rumors around just so he can hear some of the feedback from fans on these blogs. Maybe just maybe Corey is Pat Gillick in disguise. Ever think of that one Carson?

I enjoy your blog alot. Thanks for the invite.

Why do I feel Corey will ban me from this blog????
hmmm it must be just me.

I really truly do this thing for my own amusement and am pleasantly pleased that others take in this amusement.

Corey isn't Pat Gillick, Corey is Dr. Evil!

Jesse Orosco? Wasn't he pitching in the 1970's?

GM-Carson said...

Los- I do believe Jesse Orosoco first debuted for the Brooklynn Dodgers in the 1950's.

i kinda worried that the phillies are trying to be the first team to do things this postseason; maybe try to set the market rather than be subject to it. i like talking about the rumors, but i hope they take their time and do it right.

GM-Carson said...

Benjah- I worry that the Phils will sign Soriano. Doesn't sound so bad. I'd be all for it if they then kept Burrell and upgraded at 3rd too. But I'm affraid we land Soriano, keep Nuni at 3rd, trade Burrell, go with crap in the bullpen, and a minor leaguer in the rotation because we broke the bank signing Alfonso...this could really happen.

~Carson

BenJah said...

carson, your fears are mine too. this offseason seems destined to be haunted by the ghost of ed wade!

BenJah said...

more to the point: i really don't want soriano to come here b/c the pressure of the city to win would be place squarely on his shoulders. i don't think he's that guy. besides, we did just fine last year when the pressure was on utley and howard. if last year was about passing the torch to those guys, why would we take it away so soon? we should be complimenting those players, not breaking the bank on a new leader.

BENTZ said...

I don't really think Soriano would carry the team. His role would be to support Howard and Utley - probably splitting them up in the order...making the middle of the lineup left-right-left...you want Soriano to face the lefty - we'll take it!!

Let me just say I will freak if the Phillies trade for Sheffield who I can't stand and he would be a disaster here. In his prime, maybe since his production would still be there.

And I have constantly made fun of Armando Benitez his entire career - only Pirates game I went to last year, one pitch, boom, gone, Buccos tie it in the 9th...maybe he could be useful as a set-up man, but boy did that flop when he was a Yankee, though in fairness, due to the 1998 brawl, I don't think he got a fair shake there. He was good as a Marlin.

GM-Carson said...

Burrell straight up for Benitez is horrible. Throw in Noah Lowry and now we're starting to get somewhere. I'm not ready to get rid of Burrell and allow someone worse man LF. I'd rather have Burrell back or someone with equal or more production.

love the blog. keep up the good work guys. i can always count on good laugh here no matter how depressing the phils get

GM-Carson said...

To clarify, today's post wasn't done for self-promotion, rather to make myself feel better. I really love baseball, and I really love the Phillies. This place gives me the opportunity to share my thoughts with others, and that's an awesome thing.

ok, carson, we get it! you like blogging...you're going to keep trying to be funny, PC be damned! get back to making fun of people already!

GM-Carson said...

Benjah- in case you haven't noticed I like to get a bit emotional too, Corey likes to call me an H-Mo, although I'm not. So kiss my ass buddy...buddy being the key word though. You know I be jokin'!

~Carson

Bob D said...

You sure Corey isn't Pat Gillick in disguise?
He did trade away the H-Mos you guys keep talking about.

GM-Carson said...

what the hell happened here today? i don't check the blog for a day, and some how i'm pat gillick? and i'm banning people? your wish is my command, BOB D, consider yourself banned...or at least traded for a blog commentor to be named later.

anyways, here are my 2 cents worth:

rumor mark derosa - UPenn grad. not a rumor. he is actually a UPenn grad.

burrell for benitez. i could give a shit. really. burrell is my favorite player, but i don't share carson sentiments about his actual value to this team. i think they could do as good in left for cheaper, although i doubt they would, because they are the phillies. they are better at shitting the bed than making it.

concerning the sheffield trade rumors, i would give floyd and madson away for anyone at this point. so the trade is lieber for sheffield? no likely, somebody be smokin the ganja to come up with this stuff, and i'm talking a true "rich dubee" is getting blazed.

"carlos lee has entered the picture" - what picture? the "see other teams are interested so give me what i want" picture. we have a better shot at carlos santana and bruce lee, than carlos lee.

Rumor - carson likes blogging but is holding out from posting in hopes of getting a long-term deal with a no-trade clause from beerleaguer.com

out.

Rumors are fun even if they end up being false. Out of all things, I could actually see the Phils landing Soriano and trading Burrell for Benitez...it's seems realistic. Soriano's contract will become as cumbersome as Burrell's and he too will eventually get booed out of town. Benitez on the other hand will sit him hefty ass on the DL for most of the season and then people will bitch "I can't believe we didn't get more for Pat Burrell" when they're the same knob-jobs who said "don't let the door hit ya, where the good lord split ya" in regards to him this past season up until now.

on the daily news website, manuel is quoted as saying burrell would probably do well playing 1st base (where the giants want him). interesting...

das411 said...

It's all so simple though!

Keep Burrell in LF, bat 4th between Howard and Utley.
Re-up the Wolfman and keep The Three Amigos together.
Sign Iwamura, Batista, and (hopefully) Joe Table if not Orosco.
Trade Lieber and Floyd for Sheffield.
Get whatever you can get for Rowand.
Stay as far away from Baez as possible!!

Good rumors keep a good blog going and I hope this blog continues to go. I might be quite at the moment but I'm still reading. Always great work fellas, keep it up.

GM-Carson said...

BloodStripes- I was about to put out an A.P.B. on you, I was wondering where the heck you went. Nice to hear from ya buddy, thought you left us.

All the reports I'm reading about the potential Sheffield trade to any team don't make sense to me. I don't understand why the Yankees bothered picking up his option, because now they have to trade him, and they don't want him, but at the same time they're not really demanding much in return. Madson and Floyd might just be enough to land him. If that's the case...Hello Sheffiend!

GM-Carson said...

More Rumors-

1. Curt Schilling
2. Mike Mussina
3. Mike Piazza

*I absolutely love the Moose rumor, he'd be an excellent addition to the rotation.

~Carson

Bob D said...

Don't want Sheffield.

Giving up Madson and Floyd and then pay 13 mil is too much.

Mussina or Schilling yes for maybe Leiber.

BloodStripes said...

I'm around, just very busy at the moment. The time differences dont help much. We are in daylight saving time now. 1 hour forward.

Mussina or Schilling would be great additions. The rumor mill seems to be going crazy.
