Sixer

At times like this you need a beer and some good music to calm the nerves and ease the tension. The Phillies only have 6 games left, and each game will probably be a heart stopper. So grab a six-pack of your favorite brew and pop in some tunes for your pre-game warm-up, because this is going to be one helluva end to the season!

Last night's game was testament to the reason the Phillies haven't already locked up this Wild Card. Burrell and Dellucci with some poor defense, guys not hitting with runners in scoring position, and the bullpen's inability to throw strikes. We've seen this before and were hoping it would stay away, but it has reared its ugly head once again. The Phils had the opportunity to pick up that all-important 1 game cushion, but alas we're on level ground with the Dodgers. We have the gNats for a 3 game set then finish the season in Miami. What is going to happen? My overly-broken heart tells me the Phils are going to find a way to squander this thing, but I'm not giving up. This team has fooled me over and over again this season, so go ahead and fool me one more time for good measure. The Philadelphia fanbase is rabid for some Phillies playoff baseball, and I think they might just deliver.

The Starters need to go 7. What a heartbreaker last night. Awful.

Last night did break my heart, as I was confident the Phils were going to win and gain ground in the standings.

Now we have the Nationals and they are a pretty crappy team, but they seem to give the Phils fits. This is a must win series and probably a must sweep. I'm so nervous about the next six games, I may need to buy a whole case and chug it down to ease this anxiety!

Man, that killed me.

I sat in the stands in section 303 for 3 1/2 hours just to get that.

My thing is... in the 7th inning when Manuel is going through bullpen pitchers like a drunken sailor going through whores on shore leave, why couldn't he have stayed with Rick White? White had 2 batters, one he got out and one got on base. He was far from in trouble. I think he could have got through the inning.

And I couldn't tell totally from my angle, but did it look like that Matt Smith was getting squeezed on the strike zone in that inning? I thought one of those two he walked, if not both, had some close pitches on the edge of the strike zone. He should have gotten one of them out.

I'm nervous now.

Rev -

Smith was brought in to face Berkman and have him bat right-handed, where he is a far worse hitter. I have no problem with that move. I actually agree with it. The consensus (sp?) around the phlogosphere is that Smith did get pinched a bit, but that Manuel should have taken him out earlier than he did.

Last night sucked, plain and simple. A 1 game lead at this point in the season is far better than being equal. How will all of this end?...that's the big question!

REV- I hate going to Phillies games when they lose, makes me feel bad all over. Funny how a sports team can have the effect on a person.

GM-Carson said...

as the day grows longer, I become more nervous. Damn you Phillies for having the power over me!

yo drama queen, chill C. this team was left for dead at the 'dead'line and we all know that with all the holes on this team we're playing with house money at this point. of course i want them to win, but this is really all bonus. they weren't even supposed to be close, and yet, here they are! keep rooting, but smile no matter what!

GM-Carson said...

benjah- I'm with ya bro. This Wild Card would be unbelievable, as they were "left for dead" back in July. I wrote this team off before and threw in that "towel". I was always rooting, but now I'm rooting with purpose. Before I was rooting for just the thought of the Phillies, now it's rooting for post-season!!!

Why won't Manuel use the double switch?? It seems like every time we put a reliever in he is up at bat next inning and we either a) lose a good batter or b) lose a "good" arm.

The double-switch with all of our extra people is necessary these days!!

GM-Carson said...

Fans- Manuel admits his dumbass self that he doesn't fully understand the double-switch. He screwed it up last season and shies away from it still now. Just another notch to add in the belt of stupidity of Charlie Manuel...gosh I hate him!

last night's game sucked. But the Phillies still have the lead. They have to sweep the Nationals because these are games they have to do & should win.

Maybe we are playing with house money this season, but at the same time 2001, 2003, 2004, and 2005 are fresh in my mind. I don't want to add 2006 to that list of near misses and teases.

If they lose this year, yes it is amazing that they even got back in it, and they should be commended somewhat.

But long term no one will remember that. They will remember it as yet another near miss. And we've had enough of those.

Here's the straight talk comin': Sal thinks the Phils will make it. Even without ol' Sal.

rev steve -- of course we'll remember this! they came from nowhere to give us hope. and if we can't remember it, they how did you remember those other four seasons?? we went 5-1 in our last six, i will gladly take that over the next six and let the chips fall where they may

GM-Carson said...

To win this wild card we win have to win outright or go 5-1. 4-2 will make things too dicey. Dealing with all these "near miss" seasons is playing its toll on my heart. I know that sounds corny, but it's true.

I really like Myers, and I have a feeling he'll come through for us tonight. Offense needs to back him though.

Sal- you're a good guy, I'm honored to be one of your "pals"!

!!Read all about it!! Phillies are giving away free base runners! Call 1800-We'll walk your-pitcher right now

GM-Carson said...

Phillies leaving runners on base? That's unheard of, it's not like the lead the league in that category or anything. Dammit!

Maria said...

It's so hard to root for them when they're playing this kind of team & not taking advantage. Runner on 1st & 3rd...no outs. Conine makes an out without scoring the runner & than Pat strikes out. I love Chase & Ryan but how much more can they do?

Sixer it is then. I will check 'em out with a few downloads.

The Phillies are a bunch of lousy sons-a-bitches sometimes. I'm angry. I'm literally angry at life right now!

Did anyone take notice to the two sayings on the pics? Beer- "Still the best", and Sixer CD- "Truth Hurts"...those are the two options, and it looks like truth hurts!
