Idle Wild

Although the Phillies were rained out yesterday (idle) against the Mets, they still managed to pick up a half game in the Wild Card standings. This playoff picture in the NL is just as murky as ever. Baseball Minds in media around the Nation keep saying how inferior the NL is opposed to the AL. American League baseball bores me...screw the DH! The National League is going to stay highly contested until the bitter end, which makes for better baseball in my opinion.

Now, back to the Phillies...the way I look at this team now is so different from just a short month ago. Players have left, players have arrived. Bottom line, this team is keeping me interested. Ryan Howard is the NL's MVP as of today. The rotation went from huge question mark to now respectable. The bench was shabby, but now we've added Jeff "innate" Conine. A few weeks from now when the hypothetical playoff tickets go on sale, I'll once again get the credit card out and have them set aside (just like last season, to be devastatingly heart broken on the final day). So my query for Monday is, how caught up in the push for the NL Wild Card are you? I'm addicted, and as BloodStripes so eloquently put "Take another hit from the blog".

Conine's addition has to help. Rumor has it, the Phils are also interested in Juan Pierre ... that would be somethin', a true lead-off hitter.

Juan Pierre is a menace on the base paths, but getting on base for him is a problem sometimes. Not to mention he's not very good in CF.

I wouldn't go after Pierre. They're outfield is adequate now, between Vic/Dellucci/Pat and now Ah-nold (Jeff Conine "the Barbarian"). Pierre would probably cost too much in terms of what it would take to get him.

Also, I would stop fooling with the chemistry at this point. I think it's obvious that Abreu was a huge addition by subtraction move that has paid off handsomely. They're playing well, they like each other, and they like who they're playing for. Why mess with that?

P.S. I finally (sorry!!) liked you on my blog.

i've heard the juan pierre rumor too, at the same time that i heard the conine rumor (now fact).

i'd love it!

I like Pierre, but it's time with allow the collection of players currently on the roster gel the rest of the season and hopefully continue to play solid quality baseball.

hopefully conine can kill other teams' pitching the way he always killed the phillies'.

GM-Carson said...

If we're talking about Phillie killers, maybe we should coax Mark Lemke out of retirement.

great baseball card of jeff connine. acquiring juan pierre would be a mistake. he below average defensively and is a steaky hitter. I don't think he is much of an upgrade over victorino.

3-0 Mets in the bottom of the 3rd, and they have Maine on the hill which the Phils don't hit a lick off of...this is looking like a dismal loss. Oh the agony!

GM-Carson said...

Dammit Moyer! We needed this win, and it's now 6-0 Mets...what the hell?!

GM-Carson said...

At least Howard went Master-Blaster again (#47)!

I'm fully addicted to this WC race and will always take another hit from the blog. (You sure that was Whelkman?). Anyway Phils lose another series to a team with a better win percentage than their own. Good thing we are playing teams that are under .500 from now on.

I've been reading about Innate Conine and it seems Baltimore absolutely love this guy and said they would trade back for him next year if they look like making the play-offs in 07. He's a winner!

Howard for MVP!

GM-Carson said...

Conine will help this team, the guy is a professional. At this point in the "trading" season I don't think you could've picked up a better player.

BloodStripes- I apologize, you were the one with the clutch Cypress Hill tune "Hits from the bong" reference. I'll go edit now.

Our fearless leader finally surrendered a run. Fabio "Model Dictator" Castro's no runs in the sun baseball has ended...sad day is WSBGM's-ville.

if we're bringing back mark lemke, we should bring back gary carter.

GM-Carson said...

IUP- we'd have to get special clearance from the Hall of Fame due to Carter's induction. I'm sure they'd waive the rules for the Phils.

Interesting Idlewild reference. I like the album, too.

No dramas Drama Queen. A sad day indeed now that the Model Dictator has given up a run. His ERA is up to 0.49 now.

Padres and Reds lose on a day all home teams win. Lucky Phils! Time to squash some nats.

GM-Carson said...

The (g)Nats are a bad team. Seriously, they're one of the worst in the MLB this season, and the Phils should be primed for a sweep.

If the Phillies don't win this series against the Nats, it'll be bad.

GM-Carson said...

Maria- it'll be worse than bad, it'll be devastating!
