Bug Zapper

Still a measly half game out of the Wild Card lead! Phillies are doing exactly what they need to do, which is win and worry about the other teams later (Padres, Reds, and Marlins). In fact, the team that worries me most is the surging Marlins which the Phils still have 10 games left with. They need to take care of business today first, and a sweep is by all means necessary. I expect the Phillies to be bug-zapping the gNATS today. And before they leave town, they should do the common courtesy of cleaning up the ashes of the fallen pests so that they can be reassembled for another clean sweep later in the season.

Curb Your Enthusiasm:
*Weak- Howard failed to hit a homerun last night to top Schmidt on the single season Phillies list. How dare he not go deep every game? Loss of power and pressure are the excuses he's sure to use.
*Uno- Hamels sucked last night. If he can't pitch a shutout every night, what good is he to this team? Seriously, giving up 1 run to the Nationals is one run too much.
*2hole- Victorino is hitting well in the 2hole but not well enough. C'mon Flyin' Hawaiian, you should be batting 1.000 sandwiched between J-Roll and Utley!

P.S. If you didn't pick up on the sarcasm...you're stupid!

You forgot Chris Coste - if he continues to call games like that behind the plate, we'll never win the wild card ....jk

mmmm...Ryan Howard didn't hit a HR last night, I think he's losing his power. Sweeeeppppp.

The Phils are serious about this Wild Card, and they need to sweep today. This next month is going to be crazy!

Carson, thanks for putting together such a fun blog. We put you up top today on Baseball Nooz. The Phillies are certainly making the wild card race a daily thrill-ride, and I hope they can keep it up. The only problem is, I live in Atlanta and even though I had already given up hope...now the Braves have won four in a row and, well, you know, hope springs eternal. But except for the upcoming series over Labor Day, I wish the Phils great luck.

My wife is a Braves fan...shhh, don't tell anyone. I have written the Braves off this season, but even they are hanging around...silly Wild Card.

Yes, sweep today!

But most importantly... with all the rain coming in this weekend, and the day night DH that is supposed to happen that day, we will be playing makeup games into mid-October at this rate.

Stupid Storm Earnesto is going to rain on the parade. I have Labor Day weekend festivities planned that I'm sure will be dampened.

Update: Carlos Ruiz is back up with Philly...hopefully to stay. However, Matt Smith (he of 0.00 career ERA) has been sent back down. The Phillies organization must hate pitchers that don't give up runs. Also, to complete the Conine trade we sent Angel Chavez, middle infielder, to Baltimore...no big loss.

The Big Man does it again. Hail the new Phils home run king! The sweep is almost complete and the Phillies share the WC lead.

Hit 'em with old zapper!

Considering this blog is the Model Dictators biggest supporter. Now that Jose K is pinch hitting for Madson. The top of the 8th would be a good time to bring him in. A bit mor pressure and a chance to rest the others some more. How 'bout it?

BloodStripes said...

O.K no Fabio, but some more Geary magic. Nunez with a line drive to get above the Mendoza line and some great defense. Nuni's back!

Rhodes fuckin' sucks.

BloodStripes said...

2 blown saves and the Phillies snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.

Maria said...

I hate Arthur Rhodes, Aaron Fultz & I hate Charlie more for putting them in the game.

BloodStripes said...

Fabio "Model Dictator" Castro would have saved one of those innings.

Maria said...

oh &&&& the worst part...the 9th inning started with the bottom half of the order.

Maria said...

bloodstripes: Charlie only puts him in there for mop-up. Jeez. arthur rhodes has pitched like 3 days in a row & Aaron Fultz has been overused. Fabio Castro has been resting for like 3 years & he still doesn't get a shot.

Vomit!!!

Whelkman said...

I'm not done yet.

Who the hell thought it would be a good idea to make our closer a guy with an ERA of 5?

Fultz I can forgive. I think he pitched like three other times today.

Rhodes looked moronic out there. "Duh, what'd I do? I don't get it. How come they hit all balls I throw? Urk Gruk Goo!" Why can't we send his ass down?

Toyota Sports Night blames Wolf. WTF. Rhodes still would have blown the game if Geary hadn't pitched.

BloodStripes said...

Yep he's well rested and ready to go but is only trusted to peel the oranges.

You'd figure Rhodes was gonna blow one soon, but for Fultz to blow another chance was heartbreaking. Very bad loss. I hope we don't pay for it later. Our schedule is favourable for sept. I hope the Phils get over this one quick. Lift their heads and get on with it.

I blame Wolf & the phillies offense too. How dare they not have a 38575 run lead. You don't ever want it to be a save situation. It's so obvious it was Wolf's fault. Duhhh.

*Sarcasm* :)

BloodStripes said...

You know Maria. You are right and Carson said it all with Howard, Hamels and Vic not pulling their weight. Lift your game Phils!

Seriously though. Long way to go. It ain't over yet. Phils are still 2nd only 1 game out. St Louis trying to close it against Florida....up 5-2.

BloodStripes said...

Does'nt look like the Phils will get a chance to redeem themselves tommorrow. With rain forecast to get heavier and heavier during the afternoon and a coastal flood warning out.

Man.....sharing the lead 1 1/2 out in front would have been just awesome. I'm hurtin'. Shit. I'm glad its already friday afternoon here. I think i need a drink.

Maria said...

I'm only 16. I think I need a drink. That was sooo hard to watch. But seriously I blame Charlie more than anyone else. He seems to have to no idea who to put in. Why not leave Geary in there?

Ughh. Rain tomorrow. Good thing though: Padres & Reds playing tomorrow. Hopefully St. Louis can close out. It just feels so empty & wasted. It's a terrible feeling.

BloodStripes said...

Empty and wasted indeed. (Sigh).
It's laughable really. To tell you the truth, I've felt worse about other loses. I feel the team played well enough. It was just a poor pitching performance in the end by a most likely tired and overworked Rhodes and Fultz. Agree?Charlie should have used our main man Castro. Its easy to say with hindsight and very easy to sit here and bag him.

It will be interesting now to see how the team reacts. Lets see what our new Phillies are made of after a night like that. Stand up and show us what your made of boys!

On a lighter note St Louis won and Houston has won 6 straight now and are only 2 1/2 back. Hopefully the Phils can put a stop to that juggernaut next week.

BloodStripes said...

After checking the bits I missed the Phils could have played alot better. Just one of those days. Bloody hell!

Oh well, I'm still a believer!

Maria- you stole the words straight from my mouth about the bullpen management last evening by Sir Dumbass Manuel. I think you'll appreciate my rant to Friday's post.
