Blame Canada!

Say "good-bye" to Scranton Wilkes-Barre after this year and "hello" to North of the Border. That's right, the Phils Triple A team will reside for one season in Ottawa, Canada. While a stadium is being readied for an Allentown home for the Lil' Phils in '08, they'll partake of some Molson and bacon in the '07 season. This is a very strategic plan by the Phillies owners and Pat Gillick. Why? Well, they can now easily put blame on Canada when the Phillies fail to make the post season yet again. Canada has produced fine people over the years Shania Twain, Jim Carrey, Larry Walker, Jason Bay, Phils prospect Scott Mathieson, and of course the famous porn star Peter North. However, I'm sorry to report that our friendly neighbors to the North are player-hating bastards! That's right, they want to steal American's glory and become the powerhouse of the world...but enough with politics. Bottom line, Phils being summoned from Triple A next season to join the parent club will have a longer journey.

Wads of Bliss:
*#48- Howard is now tied with my main man Michael Jack Schmidt for the all-time Phillies single season homerun record...and still has about 30 games to go!
*.5- that's all the further the Phils are from tasting the Wild Card lead.
*Loss- thanks Ryan Franklin for allowing your new schmuck of a new the Reds to lose last night.
*Nunez- finally broke his 0-fer!

P.S. I don't really hate Canada, the opportunity was just too perfect to pass up.

Time to bring home the bacon Phils!

Oink!

Let's just hope next season doesn't become a sticky situation. Ya know, with the maple syrup and all.

Ok, that was corny, but so be it.

BloodStripes said...

No, thats funny. Simone laughed out loud. Maple syrup on bacon does'nt happen down under but we know of it. I must try it sometime.

After Ottawa it will be Allentown in '08 yeah? Where I read a new yard is getting built. Should be a good thing in the long run.

Hey Nuni and Pat had decent games yesterday and Utley is 0 for 24 against Washington this year. Thats crazy! As long they win its all good.

GM-Carson said...

I can't believe Utley hasn't hit against the g(Nats). He needs to snap out of it right-quick so the offense can be complete again...or as complete as the Phils offense can be that is.

Although 10 runs last night without him hitting was very good. At least we are'nt relying on 1 or 2 guys every game to get the job done, but we need him firing for the stretch. He is class and like you say if he hits the offense can be complete. Maybe better now to have a little slump than the last week or 2 or dare I say it.....October.

Howard is an absolute monster ... that home run was huge - especially in a big park like DC ... BTW, Aaron Fultz must go.

GM-Carson said...

Los- Fultz is being over-used. He is a capable left-hander with strikeout potential, but Manuel is running him out there all too often.

Here's the thing...

games like tonight, when they have a shot to overtake the lead in the WC, are the types of games the Phils have been losing for the past three years.

They gotta win one tonight. And beating up on the Nationals right now is a good time to take the lead.

They have another opportunity handed to them. They can't blow this one.

GM-Carson said...

Rev- you'red dead on. They have a golden opportunity before them, it's really up to them whether to seize it or not. Screw the Reds and Padres, or any of the other nippers from behind...the Phils fate rests in their own hands. And that's the best case scenario you can ask for.

The WC standings are beginning to look better and better. Seize the moment Phils! We ain't putting all this emotional energy into you for nothing.

I'm sitting here waiting for the sun to come up so I can start work and be back for the 2nd half of the game. As long as Hamels was'nt playing with knives again I think he'll be back to his usual cool self and pitch a gem.

Of note: Cole Hamel's girlfriend is a former Survivor contestant and posed in Playboy...nice catch!

Man the Nationals suck. I mean really, really suck. I've seen Atlantic League teams put forth better games than them. I can't see how they're doing as well as they are with their lousy hitting, fielding, baserunning, and everything else that counts.

BloodStripes said...

There's that gem we wanted. Good stuff Cole. He oughtta be gettin' some overnight off the playboy bunny after that performance!

What's your source on the Canada move? I haven't seen anything official.

GM-Carson said...

Gort- the one year move to Canada was reported on BeerLeaguer the day before...I decided to go with a funny way of breaking the news. I knew they were looking for a temporary home because their lease is up in SWB...no more Red Barrons.

g(Nats) are lousy. The play very lackadasical baseball...hard to believe Frank Robinson hasn't straight up quit. Their effort is minimal...besides Soriano...he's a beast!

Sweep?

Well....I am not only Canadian, but in Ottawa, proud home of the Ottawa Lynx. The deal here is low fan support and now, we will lose the team after the 07 campaign. I have always been a believer that if the MLB Affiliate team has a good farm system loaded with prospects, "People Will Come, Ray".

However, it is time for the Lynx to depart. It really is an embarrasment and a shame. I am happy to welcome the Phils and look forward to some good prospects to follow next year.

We gotta get our respective blogs on this - I can provide direct AAA reports on your guys next year as I am a regular at the Stadium.

Haha, what's funny is that the Phillies went from 'bacon' in Ottawa to 'Iron Pigs' in Allentown.
