A win is a win...ugly as it may have been. Ugly may not be the word, because that Rowand/Utley collision was gruesome, and Rhodes closing was repulsive...but remember a WIN is a WIN! There were positives in the game last night: #1 The Phillies are finally at .500. #2 That Donut-Eatin'-Summabitch Lieber continues his resurgence (4 quality starts in a row). #3 Nunez is finally dead smack sitting on the Mendoza line...go get 'em tonight Abe! #4 Utley and Rollins are making a case for best middle infield in the NL. #5 Burrell had a great game last night all-around, batting, running the bases, and fielding...didn't think we'd be mentioning the last two did ya? #6 The Phils are trying to leap frog their way into the front of the Wild Card pack...keep going boys!

Worries:
*Flash Gordon was just put on the DL retroactive to August 13. As mentioned above Rhodes is not very good at closing, in fact good shouldn't even be mentioned in regards to that situation.
*Bench- Sandoval and Roberson are bad. At least Roberson has speed and is useful as a pinch-runner for Burrell. However, they have absolutely no pinch-hit value, batting .136 and .179...ouch! We need a pinch hitter pronto!
*Rowand- that collision last night thankfully did not cost the Phils Utley, but it may land Rowand on the DL or at least have him out of the lineup for an extended period of time. Although, Rowand isn't great at the plate, he's the best option we have because an OF of Burrell, Victorino, and Dellucci makes the bench all the weaker.

P.S. So the question remains...are we there yet?

Ugly collision last night. The reports are that Rowand has a sprained ankle, but I couldn't find out how bad of a sprain. Rowand said that if it is only a sprain, he'll be out there playing today (what a gamer).
I'll give it to Rowand- the dude is gutsy beyond belief. I'm not a fan of his outfield arm, and his batting isn't all that great, but his grit is awesome...so I'm mildly a fan.
If only Rowand had more talent and longer arms...
I half expect to see him hobbling out there with splints.
Rowand is the T-Rex of the baseball world with arms that short!
*I now know why the Phils gave Nunez, such a hefty contract...so he'd have extra money to bribe the opposing pitcher...good thinking Gillick!
Loyal Readers- I've been doing more frequent posts over on our other blog "More Hardball" @ http://morehardball.blogspot.com
*Just thought I'd let everyone know.
Report- Rowand has a broken ankle and will be out 5 weeks...ouch!!!
We need bench help NOW! Maybe Gillick can work some waiver wire magic...here's to hoping he can!
Ouch is right! I'm not sure who we can even look at for this?
they are going to have to trade for a backup outfielder. i'm sure many made it through waivers that are better than chris roberson.
can bobby scales play outfield?
Corey
yes- Bobby Scales can play corner OF...he's been doing so at Scranton.
Operation Bobby Scales is in full-effect!

Copy Cat?- once again, WSBGM's is ahead of the game on the latest Phillies conversation...everyone should convene here instead!
here comes reggie sanders. probably wont't cost much and is a veteren player with playoff experience
sanders costs a crap load! he has something like 5-7 mil guaranteed in 2007. no thanks, although his play is fine by me. i got it: let's reaquire abreu....err
man rowand is a gamer. it'll suck not having him for a few weeks and you know that no one is more upset about that than rowand himself, however he has incredible faith in his teammates, especially victorino and their ability to step up. i think victorino will be just fine and it won't change much.
victorino for rowand is about as even of a trade-off as you can get. the problem lies now in the ever increasing weak bench!
I doubt the Phils pickup Sanders. I'm not really sure who Gillick might get, if he gets anything at all. I say Sammy Sosa...Corey and I discussed this before the season began. I know he's not the mega-star he used to be, but hey, he might be able to give us some potent pinch-hitting...ya never know.
I broke my ankle a few months ago...wish I coulda done it the same way making 3M a year.
While you all are looking at overpriced, washed-up outfielders like Reggie Sanders and Sammy Sosa... I have a near mint-condition Jeromy Burnitz you might be interested in. $7 million for a hobbling bench player/pinch hitter is a great deal.
Che- I swear to The God up in heaven, if you ever come over hear talking that Jeromy Burnitz to the Phillies shit again, I'll ban you for life!
*I'm just joking around brotha! Trying to get a laugh...
Thurston and Bourn have been summoned to the Phils...where the hell is Scales?!
Nunez will look even more terrible if they bring Scales up.
Hahaaa, I know, I know. I just thought maybe I should let some others in on my suffering.
But seriously folks, if you're not interested in Burnitz, how about Jose Hernandez, who is referred to in Pittsburgh as "Jose K"? Oh wait, that deal already went through! Enjoy your new Jose K!
Madson is not closer material but gets a dodgy save anyway. After the double and walk they had Castro up in the pen. Unbelievable.
Good to see the Phils racking up wins against the cellar-dwellers. The real test comes tommorrow with Myers trying to come good again. Then the big one I'm sure everyone is looking forward to. Hamels v Zambrano. Could be a 2 hour K'fest.
Did I mention you have been very positive lately Drama Queen. Can i safely say you are now an official believer?
To hell with the reds! If they dont go down on their 10 game west coast road trip let 'em win the East division and we can take the queerdinals for the WC. Phils are 14-7 for august. keep it up and we will catch one of them.
Go wild PHILLIES!!!
"Go WILD Phillies" is right my man!
Thee Drama Queen goes back and forth from positive to negative on his own accord, he's a bit unstable, no telling what you're gonna get from him.

Just found this little tidbit about Bell/Nuni. Thought it might interest all you GM's.
Since the Trade:
Bell: .235 .312 .294 .606 - 0 HR in 68 ABs. 2 Errors
Nunez: .267 .349 .347 .696 - 1 HR in 75 ABs
Also the Phils are 17 - 8 since then. Nuni is our spark!!!
I hope you get the joke- Bell's tenure is now refered to as "The Crying Game"
Sorry. Dumbass over here is'nt sure. Phil me in. Is it relation to the movie? I have'nt seen it.
Well basically it's about a man pretending to be a woman that seduces men...direct correlation with David "Fairy Feet" Bell and his flowing hair, I didn't refer to him at the Rainbow Brigade in a previous post for nothing!
By the way, I really have no ill feelings towards gay people, I just find it funny to accuse Bell of being an H-Mo. Gay or straight, it doesn't matter to me what you are.
LOL....O.K i got it. I must read that days blog. I dont think i've read that one.
The Rainbow Parade. It sounds like something we have here in Sydney. The Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras. Its huge nowadays. Fairy Feet would love it!
Yeah, gay, not gay, who cares. Heck my neighbors are lesbians. We love 'em. I grew up in Sydney. Its the gay and lez capital of Oz. It aint the sister city of San Francisco just for the hills, harbour and bridge. Haha!!
